Arsenal v Man City Preview
Arsenal’s Form
Arteta’s Arsenal assignment for the 24/25 season was to land a “major” trophy with the club trophyless since their 2020 FA Cup final success. Their midweek victory over Girona secured an automatic place in the Champions League Round of 16 and next week they will have the opportunity to overcome their 0-2 first-leg deficit against Newcastle and book themselves a place in the EFL Cup Final.
In the Premier League, it’s been a case of being good but not quite good enough with them currently in second spot trailing Liverpool by six points having played an extra game over their closest rivals. Despite facing some injury issues off-the-field the performances of their opponents in this game means this is still the club's best opportunity to win a league title since their last success in the 04/05 season.
Nothing but a win for the Gunners will suffice, otherwise, they’re likely to lose further crucial ground to Liverpool in this season's title race.

Man City’s Form
City has been dominating football for the best part of a decade including winning 7 of the last 11 Premier League titles. This year though they’ve struggled to find consistency largely in part to the absence of Rodri. However, they’ve shown considerable resilience in the last week beating Chelsea and getting the job done in the Champions League.
They’re currently fourth in the Premier League following a total of 41 points from their opening 23 matches putting them three behind Nottingham Forest, six behind Arsenal and trailing by twelve points having played a game in hand behind league leaders Liverpool. Despite that, their Expected Points position would have them only in sixth place which suggests that their performances still need to pick up if they’re to stand a chance of another league title.
Aside from the recent slip-up to PSG, City look to have turned somewhat of a corner in recent weeks and while some people are writing them off already, I’m still expecting them to go close to landing silverware in the Premier League and Champions League and FA Cup this season.

Key Players To Watch
Kai Havertz – Arsenal
Havertz has come under considerable pressure for his performances of late particularly against Man United last weekend failing to get on the scoresheet despite plenty of big chances. However, he still has a respectable tally of 14 goals and 4 assists from 32 games this season.
It’ll be a testament to his character if he can bounce back and make an impact in this game and he is priced at 13/2 to be the first goal scorer and 9/4 to score anytime.
Havertz anytime goalscorer – 9/4
Erling Haaland – Man City
The Norwegian freak of nature has recently agreed on a 9.5-year new deal with Man City, which would take his time at the club to June 2034 and so it’s likely we will see him terrorise defences in the Premier League at least until his “high” release clause is activated in 2029.
This season he’s scored 24 goals and 2 assists from 32 games in all competitions and after his goal at the weekend, he is 5/1 to score first or 13/8 to score at any time.
Erling Haaland first goalscorer – 5/1
Arsenal v Man City Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Arsenal 1-2 Man City
Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 13 Premier League matches and look well on course to challenge for the title, but this will be a huge test of their credentials against a City side they’ve always struggled to get the better of in recent years.
City got the job done in the Champions League midweek and they continue to make January additions which likely means it's only a matter of time before they can get back to their dominant best so can’t be ruled out of this game.
While Arsenal do have home advantage, I think City can’t be ignored at odds of 11/4 with the quality in the team and their recent scoring streak.
Best Bet: Man City @ 14/5
