Who Is Favourite For The Premier League?

Man City

City Slay The Champions

Goals from Erling Haaland, Nico Gonzalez and Jeremy Doku earned City a deserved 3-0 win at the Etihad on Sunday and consigned a weary-looking Reds side to a seventh loss in their last 10 competitive matches. It also left them eighth in the Premier League standings and eight points behind leaders Arsenal heading into the international break.

We’re not saying Liverpool’s hopes are already dead and buried with barely a quarter of the season gone, but the record books suggest they would now need to produce something spectacular to finish top of the pile in May. Only eight times in the Premier League era has a team won the title having lost more than five matches all season, while just Blackburn in 1994/95 have been crowned champions after losing more than six.

The good news for Reds fans and punters is that Liverpool’s feast-or-famine form means they have also managed to pick up 10 wins from their 17 matches this season - they are yet to draw - so are still handily placed in the top eight of the Premier League and Champions League.

Arsenal

Top Gunners

Arsenal remain favourites to replace Liverpool as England's top dogs and are now 8/13 to land their first Premier League title since 2004. Although their 10-match winning run in all competitions came to an end in Saturday's 2-2 draw at Sunderland - the first goals the Gunners have conceded since September - Mikel Arteta’s men still boast a useful four-point lead at the summit.

Arsenal have little time to rest on their laurels, however. Following the international break, their next three fixtures are Tottenham, Bayern Munich and Chelsea. Manchester City are their closest challengers and can be backed at 9/4 to win their ninth title in 15 seasons.

Other Contenders

Best of the Rest

Beyond the top three, Chelsea are 20/1 to finish top as they begin to build some momentum following a poor start, winning seven of their last nine games. That run has left Enzo Maresca’s men third in the Premier League, two points behind City, and 12th in the Champions League, although like Arsenal, their credentials will be tested when they return to action later this month.

Six of Chelsea’s next nine games are on the road, while their next two matches at Stamford Bridge are against Barcelona and Arsenal. Manchester United are fifth favourites at 40/1 after finally showing green shoots under Ruben Amorim, although their recent 2-2 draws at Nottingham Forest and Tottenham shows there is still work to do.

Behind the top five, promoted Sunderland are 200/1 to be crowned champions for the first time since 1936, while Spurs and Brighton can be backed at 250/1.
