Arsenal New Title Favourites

Arsenal have been promoted to 5/4 favourites with BOYLE Sports in the Premier League outright winner odds following their dramatic victory at Newcastle and Liverpool’s loss away to Crystal Palace.

The Gunners fell behind courtesy of Nick Woltemade’s first-half header, but Mikel Merino equalised in the 84th minute, and defender Gabriel completed the comeback deep into stoppage time.

Having already faced Liverpool and Manchester City this season, Mikel Arteta hailed the resilience shown by his side, especially as they had tasted defeat on their last three visits to St James’ Park.

Arteta said: “There are moments in the season and obviously with the start that we had already and the difficult fixtures that we had, today we had the opportunity to close that gap, and do it in a stadium that has a very recent and difficult past for us.

“I think it shows how much the team wants it.”

Bukayo Saka, who was made captain for the day, told the club’s official website: “It was a big result. We’ve come here in the past, and results have gone against us, or decisions and stuff like that.

“But we dug in and we showed that character, that resilience we have, so I’m really proud of all the boys. We made a big statement today. It’s really good for us, you can see it in all of our faces.”

Late Palace strike leaves Slot fuming

Liverpool are still top of the table, but their advantage over Arsenal was reduced to two points after they lost their 100 per cent record in a 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace.

Federico Chiesa thought he had rescued a point for the champions when he cancelled out Ismaila Sarr’s early goal three minutes from time.

But the Reds, who have made a habit of scoring late winners this season, were given a taste of their own medicine as Eddie Nketiah won it for Palace at the end of seven minutes of stoppage time.

Liverpool are out to 7/4 second favourites, and Arne Slot said: “We can only blame ourselves for defending the way we did.

“One of our players ran out because he wanted to play a counter-attack, which was of no use because time was up, so it was only about defending.

“One player was too offensively minded in that moment, which led to them scoring the winner and us losing the game.”

Man City

Guardiola delighted with City’s ‘body language’

Manchester City continued to recover from a stuttering start to the season when flexing their muscles with a 5-1 thrashing of Burnley at Etihad Stadium, buoyed by two more late goals from Erling Haaland.

Having beaten neighbours United 3-0 and drawn 1-1 away to Arsenal in their two previous Premier League games, City are five points off the summit and 5/1 to regain the title.

“I think since the United game, the team has shown another way, another body language,” commented Pep Guardiola.

“Even when they were not playing good against Arsenal, how they defend, how they help each other in that many times. It’s the key for everything.”

Chelsea have drifted out to 33/1 in the Premier League outright winner odds after a 3-1 home defeat by Brighton left them seven points adrift of Liverpool.
