Erling Haaland
Erling Haaland @ 5/2
Okay, there are no prizes for guessing that Manchester City’s goalscoring machine features in our selections for the visit to Wolves. The Norwegian has been a nightmare for opposing teams on the opening day of the season, both in Germany’s Bundesliga and the Premier League. He kicked off with doubles against Borussia Monchengladbach and Eintracht Frankfurt when with Dortmund, and has hit the ground running for three straight years at City. He bagged a brace at West Ham and Burnley before chipping in a well-taken opener first up versus Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last term.
Cole Palmer
Cole Palmer @ 4/1
Palmer got off to a fine start last season, netting on early away trips to Wolves and West Ham before hitting all of Chelsea’s goals in a 4-2 defeat of Brighton at Stamford Bridge towards the end of September. He went on to reach 15 Premier League goals, having posted a superb tally of 22 the previous campaign. Last month’s double in the stunning Club World Cup final defeat of PSG highlighted just how influential Palmer has become, and the Blues will be looking to him to break down Crystal Palace.
Chris Wood
Chris Wood @ 5/1
The New Zealand forward is another percentage pick in our first goalscorer predictions after finishing last season with 20 top-flight strikes, putting him joint-fourth in the Golden Boot table behind only Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Haaland. Wood was quick out of the blocks on home turf, netting against Bournemouth and Wolves in Nottingham Forest’s first two fixtures at the City Ground. He will be eyeing another flyer when Brentford visit.
Bukayo Saka
Bukayo Saka @ 7/1
Arsenal have brought in Viktor Gyokeres to be the focal point of their attack, but Saka should be suited by Sunday’s match-up with Manchester United at Old Trafford. The Red Devils tend to leave gaps out wide when defending, and there is no better winger than Saka to capitalise on such freedom by cutting in and getting shots off. The England star struck in three straight meetings with United between April 2022 and January 2023 and has been on the scoresheet in the Gunners’ last two Premier League openers.
