Porto v Man United Preview
Porto’s Form
Porto had a decent 23/24 season where they finished 3rd in the Primeira Liga finishing 8 points behind Benfica and 18 behind Sporting. They were knocked out of the Taca da Liga in the Group Stage, Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira Runner-up, Round of 16 in the Champions League. Though they did have Taça de Portugal's victory over Sporting last May. During the summer though Evanilson departed to Bournemouth for €47,000,000 but they made several interesting signings from the likes of Atletico, Arsenal and Udinese.
This season Porto have started strongly for the most part with 18 points from their opening 7 league games putting them 2nd and 3 points behind Sporting. They also won the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira 3-4 over Sporting AET last August. However, their opening night defeat 3-2 against FK Bodø/Glimt was a big setback.
While they lost their Europa opener, they did defeat Arsenal in the Champions League last year so are well capable of defeating a disjointed Arsenal side.

Man United’s Form
Ten Hag is under pressure again. Back-to-back draws against Crystal Palace and Twente have ten Hag and his squad in an awkwardly familiar position and following their Tottenham-sized humiliation 0-3 at Old Trafford last weekend the manager is back in the most precarious position of his tenure so far. Such is the inconsistency of this United side in the fact they will be underdogs in the betting ahead of this game despite this being a game they should be winning.
At the weekend against Tottenham, it was not just the defeat which hurt the club the most but the manner of it. The defence which had looked decent so far this season looked vulnerable, the midfield looked disjointed and Mainoo and Mount both got injured and the attack remained blunt and wasteful.
It’s do-or-die again for ten Hag and his squad and a loss or even a draw could prove fatal at this juncture of the season.

Key Players To Watch
Samu Omorodion – Porto
The summer signing from Atletico Madrid (a place which knows their attacking talent) has taken to life at Porto like a duck to water with 5 goals from 5 games, including 1 in the Europa League and just 298 minutes in total. Omorodion is a modern #9 who is tall, quick and physically imposing.
Bruno Fernandes – Man United
While his output has been scarily prolific since signing for Man United (30) with 79 goals and 70 assists from his first 242 games at the club. However, the now 30-year-old has received criticism for his performances including being controversially sent off against Tottenham at the weekend (which has since been rescinded). The best players later in their careers can reinvent themselves for longevity and this game could be a chance to play Bruno in a deeper #8 role.
Porto v Man United Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Porto 0-1 Man United
Porto will be high in confidence ahead of this game knowing their league form has been strong and that they defeated a stronger Arsenal side last season.
Nothing but a win will suffice for Man United if ten Hag is to arguably survive and that could either prompt a performance or a gate crash. Only time will tell.
I’ve never been less confident in a Man United side but at 19/10 they represent good value.
Best Bet: Man United @ 19/10
