Gareth Southgate has received a vote of confidence from England fans ahead of the Euros after a new poll revealed only 14% liked the idea of him leaving his job after the tournament.
Southgate Gets Vote of Confidence From England Fans
While over 30% were undecided, a poll of 2,000 adults found 50% would be happy if Southgate stayed on no matter how the Three Lions performed at EURO 2024, as preparations continue for their Group C opener against Serbia on Sunday.
The research, commissioned by betting brand BoyleSports, revealed the biggest 'fanxieties' ahead of the Euros, with penalty shootout anguish coming out as the number one worry amongst the fanbase, while others were concerned about Jude Bellingham getting injured, a David Beckham '98-esque red card and coming up against Scotland and losing.
‘ITV Curse’ Identified By English Fans As Worry Ahead Of Euros
Even a channel curse was identified as a worry in some superstitious supporters, as England have won just three of their 17 World Cup matches aired on ITV, but won 12 out of 16 matches shown on BBC.
A spokesperson from BoyleSports, a betting provider known for its early payout offers, commented:
"As much as fans love football, it can be quite stressful.
“Few supporters of an international team have had it all go their way and England fans will likely feel they’ve suffered more than most.
“And these experiences could explain why so many fans have worries about their prospects in Germany, but perhaps their fortunes will finally turn around.”
Despite the worries, the survey carried out through OnePoll for BoyleSports, found 20% are confident in England's chances and are convinced this will finally be their year.
Early Payout at BoyleSports To Help Ease Some ‘Fanxiety’
A spokesperson for BoyleSports added: "Clearly ‘Fanxiety’ is a very real side effect of watching football and with just days to go until Euro 2024, England fans are feeling the pressure!
“However, we have some good news for fear-riddled punters. BoyleSports is helping to alleviate ‘fanxiety’ around Euro 2024 by paying out early on selected games if your team goes 1-0 up, even if they go on to draw or lose!”
