‘Monk’ Faces Tough Case at the Ballot Box
Gerry Hutch faces a significant challenge in his bid to win the Dublin Central by-election according to the latest odds.
The notorious gangland figure narrowly missed out in the constituency in last year’s general election, and BOYLE Sports rate his chances of success this time at 7/1, meaning he is third favourite in the race to take the seat vacated by Paschal Donohoe.
‘The Monk’ has been one of the most talked-about figures in the race and drew criticism from rival candidates this week following a social media post suggesting immigrants should be interned in camps at the Curragh.
The betting now suggests he has ground to make up on the frontrunners ahead of polling day on May 22 nd , with Daniel Ennis an odds-on shot at 4/9 for the Social Democrats, while Janice Boylan of Sinn Féin is seen as the main challenger at 7/2.
A spokesperson for BOYLE Sports said:
“With voters heading to the polls this month, Gerry Hutch remains firmly at the forefront of public attention. But the betting suggests the jury is out on his chances and right now he faces a tough task to close the gap on the frontrunners.”
