Lowry Due?
Shane To Reign In Familiar Surroundings?
Shane Lowry will look to take advantage of a weakened field and local knowledge at the Cognizant Classic this week as he chases only the fourth PGA Tour title of his career.
The 38-year-old Irishman is 12/1 favourite with BOYLE Sports to claim victory on the Champion Course at PGA National, which was the venue for the 1983 Ryder Cup.
At 31 in the world, Lowry is the second-highest ranked player competing in Florida, behind American Ryan Gerard, as many of the game’s leading lights take a break ahead of the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Gerard, the world number 26, is 14/1 to claim top honours this weekend and could be the biggest threat to Lowry’s hopes of going one further than his runner-up finish in 2022.
Lowry has not won an individual title in over three years but heads into the Cognizant Classic on the back of seven successive top-30 finishes and looking in good touch.
How many events will Shane Lowry win this year on Tour?
He is also playing at what is essentially his home course at Palm Beaches, as he lives only 20 miles away in Jupiter, and the European Ryder Cup star has never missed the cut in eight tournaments on the Champion Course.
The respective chances of Lowry, Gerard and company received a further boost with three of the pre-tournament favourites – Ben Griffin, Jacob Bridgeman and Adam Scott – all pulling out on the eve of the $9.6million event.
Griffin, who made his Ryder Cup debut for the USA last year, is 11th in the world rankings while Bridgeman won his first PGA Tour title at the Genesis Invitational on Sunday - edging out Rory McIlroy - and Scott is a former Masters champion.
Danish twins Nicolai Hojgaard and Rasmus Hojgaard are joint-third favourites at 18/1, while American Michael Thorbjornsen is rated at 20/1.
Highsmith To Emulate The Golden Bear?
Can Highsmith Follow The Bear?
Joe Highsmith is back to defend the title he won last year when he finished 19 under par and two shots clear of JJ Spaun and Bridgeman.
The left-handed Highsmith is looking to become the first back-to-back winner of the event since Jack Nicklaus in 1977 and 1978, and if you think he can emulate the Golden Bear this weekend, then you can get odds of 175/1.
Five-time major champion Brooks Koepka, playing his third PGA Tour event since leaving LIV Golf at the end of last year, is 25/1 to claim victory, the same price as Aaron Rai and Daniel Berger.
