Peter Casey has gathered fresh support from punters after he dominated last night’s televised presidential debate with all six candidates present.

Despite calls for Casey to withdraw from the race due to his comments regarding the travelling community, the Dragon’s Den businessman was commended for questioning the incumbent Michael D Higgins on his use of a private jet to Belfast whilst also sending a car to greet him for his return journey.

Although Casey remains a firm outsider to win the Irish Presidential Election at 100/1, his odds have been drastically slashed from 100/1 to 14/1 in the betting without Michael D Higgins market.

In a market without Higgins and Sean Gallagher, Casey is now 8/1 having seen his odds slashed from 33/1, but it is Sinn Fein’s Liadh Ní Riadha who leads that particular race with odds of 2/5.

Sean Gallagher’s performance in his first debate, having missed the debate on ‘Claire Byrne Live’ on Monday, has had a negative effect on his odds after he has been eased out to 5/6 from the firm 1/4 favourite to come second to Mr Higgins.

Current President Michael D Higgins remains red hot to secure a second term in Áras, however his odds have been pushed out to 1/33 from 1/50 as a slight shift in support occurs in the market.

a surge of support came in for the Dragon’s Den star following the Pat Kenny Big debate on Wednesday evening.""

It could be a case of the Donald Trump effect spilling over into the Irish Presidential Election with cautious punters choosing to latch onto the apparent outsider and their large odds, having seen him backed all the way into 14/1 from 100/1 to finish second to Michael D.
