McDonald now third favourite for Áras an Uachtaráin
BOYLE Sports has installed Pearse Doherty as the favourite to replace Mary Lou McDonald as President of Sinn Féin.
McDonald, who has held the position since 2018, is now just 11/2 third favourite to become the next President of Ireland after fuelling speculation by not dismissing a run to succeed Michael D. Higgins.
Doherty Leads Leadership Race
Should she step aside from her party role, Donegal TD Pearse Doherty now tops the list of potential successors as odds-on favourite at 4/11. The party’s finance spokesperson has been long regarded as a natural heir and leads the early betting ahead of Michelle O’Neill (5/1), the party’s Vice President and Northern Ireland’s First Minister.
Eoin Ó Broin (6/1) and Matt Carthy (8/1) are also rated potential runners for the top job.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:
“Mary Lou McDonald’s recent comments have stirred the pot and a growing number of punters are speculating that a change could be on the horizon. Pearse Doherty is already odds-on, suggesting strong confidence that he’d be first in line.”
