Paulo Fonseca is a strong favourite to be named next Newcastle United manager after Steve Bruce left the club by mutual consent on Wednesday.
A change in the dugout had been expected at St. James’ Park in the wake of the Saudi-led takeover of the club, but Bruce stayed on to take charge of his 1,000th match as a manager in Sunday’s 3-2 defeat by Tottenham.
Fonseca had been heavily linked to the Tottenham job in the summer and remains out of work after being replaced by Jose Mourinho at Roma at the end of last season.
...with Lucien Favre (4/1) and Eddie Howe (6/1) also believed to be on the shortlist.
Former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is also prominent at 20/1 in the early betting alongside Rangers boss Steven Gerrard also at 20/1 to make the move south.
Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers (25/1) has already distanced himself from rumours linking him to the post, while Jose Mourinho shortened into 25/1 from 33/1 within minutes of the market opening having admitted an ‘emotional connection’ with the club thanks to his relationship with the late Sir Bobby Robson.
