Liverpool and Everton have one of the most fierce rivalries in all of British football but one Liverpool legend has claimed that there will never be parity between the two clubs.
Patrik Berger, the former Reds ace who Steven Gerrard claimed was ‘the best left-footed striker of a ball’ he’d seen, did not mince his words when giving his opinion on the rivalry between the two Merseyside clubs.
Berger also spoke to us about his former teammate Steven Gerrard, the impact that Liverpool’s summer signings have had this season, why Caoimhin Kelleher should leave Anfield and why Conor Bradley should take Trent Alexander-Arnold’s starting spot at right-back.
Liverpool & Everton Rivalry
Everton Will Never Close Gap on Liverpool – Even With New Stadium
Everton could have a 150,000-seater stadium, but Liverpool would have to be trophyless for 50 years and Everton would have to win consistently in that time to be considered even close to Liverpool.
It's good for the city and I have a lot of friends who are Everton fans, so I am buzzing for them and for football in general. But as a Liverpool fan, I am not worried at all.
Goodison Park Was A Terrible Place To Go But I Loved Playing There
When you play Everton at home, it is always electric and the atmosphere is always bang-on because of the local rivalry. I've scored against them at Anfield a couple of times, but never at Goodison. We always got the results at Everton, but it was a horrible ground to go to.
It was one of the stadiums in the Premier League that I looked forward to playing in, but it was a terrible place to go to.

Steven Gerrard
Steven Gerrard Must Be Right to Call Me the Best Left-Footed Striker of a Ball!
I always had a very special left foot and I remember the goal I scored against Charlton for Portsmouth when I joined there. Everyone said it was lucky, but I knew I had the ability to strike a ball like that.
It's great to hear something like that from Stevie because he played with so many great left-footed players in his illustrious career. It's crazy to hear that, but I will definitely take it.
Steven Gerrard Showed Me at 17 He Would Become Liverpool Captain
He started to train with us when he was 17 I think, Michael Owen also started to train with us from that time as well. He was a very different player, but Stevie really stood out and we could see his quality from the very first training session.
He loved the club, he was always giving 150% and he had so much talent - even at 17 years old. When knew he would be playing for the first team regularly and also that he would be captain before too long as well.
He genuinely had everything and needed experience and strength to make his way into the first team. His physique and stamina meant he was always going to be a player, but he just needed to get over a few injuries he had when he started out.
Ballon D’or Winner Pavel Nedved Was a Superstar - But Steven Gerrard Was Better
He was very deserving of the Ballon d'Or, but also a very hard-working player who could score with either foot and had great technical ability. He was a star in the Italian league as well and did incredible things.
But I would have to say the best I ever played with was Steven Gerrard. It was great to play with John Barnes, who was my hero, even though he was 34. When you play for the biggest teams in the world, you're going to be lucky to be playing with some of the very best players.
Liverpool’s Summer Signings Have Proved Doubters Wrong
I knew Mac Allister because of the World Cup, where he did so well for Argentina, so I was buzzing when we signed him. To sign him for £35 million and the way that he plays has proved to be a bargain.
He is worth much more money because he is a fantastic player, but I didn't know too much about Dominik Szoboszlai before he arrived. He has settled so well and is playing really well.
Endo is another example, people were not sure if he was the right sort of midfielder. But he has proved that he is more than good enough to play for Liverpool.
*Liverpool are 6/5 favourites to win the Premier League this season, per the latest football odds at BoyleSports, ahead of both Man City (7/4) and Arsenal (11/4).
Conor Bradley Is a Better Defender Than Trent
Since the first game I saw him, I have been really impressed. Jurgen Klopp has shown over the last nine years that he is not afraid to promote academy players to the first team.
Now, they have six or seven players regularly in the squad and it is great for the younger lads in the academy to see because they know they can make it to the first team.
Trent Should Move To Midfield
Bradley is actually a much better defender than Trent, as a right-back, but I would rather see Trent in midfield. When he plays as a right-back he's obviously unbelievable going forward, but sometimes teams focus on that side because he's not the best defensively.
I can see Bradley playing regularly as a right-back and Trent moving into midfield.
Caoimhin Kelleher Should Leave to Be a No.1
When we spoke about Bradley just then it is a different situation because Jurgen can rotate players and change the formation to fit certain players in there. With keepers, it is just different.
Alisson is number one, so as a number two you don't get that many games. But Kelleher has kept us in so many games since he has come in. Thanks to him, we are where we are, because he has saved us so many points already this season.
He is definitely a number one keeper in the Premier League somewhere, I would love him to stay at Liverpool, but he would be looking to go somewhere and play.
It's a waste of time if you're just sitting on the bench, so I don't know what the contract situation is, but he has had the taste of being number one and he is too good to be a number two in my opinion.
