Who Will Become The New Sheffield United Manager?

BoyleSports on Jan 1, 1970 at 12:00 AM
Neil Lennon is one of the early candidates for the permanent manager’s job at Sheffield United after the club parted company with Chris Wilder.

Wilder left the Blades on Friday after a five-year stint at Bramall Lane which saw him take the club from League One to the Premier League, but they look destined to drop back to the Championship at the end of this season with just 14 points from 28 matches.

Recent Celtic departee Lennon is one of the early candidates having been backed into 6/1 from 10/1 with BoyleSports, but Sheffield United Under-23s coach Paul Heckingbottom is the favourite as he looked set to take temporary charge for Sunday’s game against Leicester City.

The former Hibernian and Leeds United boss is odds-on at 8/13 to get the job on a permanent basis, with Frank Lampard (8/1), Eddie Howe (9/1) and Slaven Bilic (18/1) also featuring among the early contenders.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Paul Heckingbottom is our early favourite for the Sheffield United job having been placed in temporary charge, but Neil Lennon has attracted some early support. We had to cut him into 6/1 second favourite from 10/1 within an hour of opening the betting so we’ll be keeping a close eye on any more market moves.”
