Mescal Misses Out In Nominations Reveal
Irish film fans have been given plenty to cheer after the nominations were revealed for the 2026 Academy Awards, with Jessie Buckley emerging as a runaway favourite to land the biggest prize of her career.
The Killarney native is rated a near certainty by BOYLE Sports to win the Best Actress gong, with the bookmaker pricing Buckley at 1/20 to lift the coveted statuette for her acclaimed performance as Agnes Hathaway in Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet . Fresh from her Golden Globe triumph, Buckley has surged clear in the betting, with Rose Byrne ( If I Had Legs I’d Kick You ) her nearest challenger at a distant 7/1.
There had also been Irish interest in the supporting categories, where Paul Mescal had been handed an outside chance of Oscar success. The Maynooth star however missed out on a nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category for his role alongside Buckley, with Golden Globe winner Stellan Skarsgård ( Sentimental Value) expected to scoop the award at 5/6.
Elsewhere, awards season form has held steady following the nominations reveal. One Battle After Another remains a dominant 1/7 favourite to claim Best Picture, ahead of Hamnet at 11/2, while Timothée Chalamet is strongly fancied at 1/6 to win Best Actor for his performance in Marty Supreme .
