Olympic Men’s 2024 Betting Favourites
France
France are favourites to land the 2024 Olympic Men’s Football at odds of 11/5. Those odds suggest France have a 31.3% chance of winning their second gold medal in the competition after their success in 1984.
France are currently managed by Thierry Henry who has been in the role since the 21st of August 2023. Ahead of the tournament, they have been in strong form with 4 victories and 1 draw scoring 16 goals and only conceding 5. Their two most recent games were warm-up wins 4-1 over Paraguay and 7-0 over the Dominican Republic.
Group A
France United States Guinea New Zealand
The home town favourites are bringing a star-studded squad to the tournament including their overage players forwards Lacazette of Lyon, Mateta of Crystal Palace and Sevilla defender Badé. My player to watch for them at the Olympics is Lyon attacking midfielder Ryan Cherki (20) is one of the most technically brilliant players you will see.
Spain
Spain are second favourites to claim the Olympic gold medal at odds of 13/5. Those odds suggest a 27.8% chance they win their second gold medal in the event after winning it in 1992.
They have been managed by Santi since December 2022 after de la Fuente was promoted to the senior role. His record to date is 9 wins (52.94%), 6 draws and 2 defeats with a goal difference of +20. Before their tournament commences they will play a friendly match against the United States on the 18th of July.
Group C
Spain Egypt Uzbekistan Dominican Republic
Despite some of their eligible players like Yamel playing a role in their Euro 2024 win, they still have a strong squad attending the tournament. Their three overage players are Miranda of Real Betis, Ruiz of Braga and Gomez who is joining Real Sociedad from Man City. My player to watch is Pau Cubarasi (17) who already has 33 senior games for Barcelona at CB.
Argentina
Argentina are third favourites to claim the Olympic gold medal at odds of 29/10. Those odds suggest a 25.6% chance they win their third gold medal in the event following wins in 2004 and 2008.
They are managed by Javier Mascherano who was a member of both their previous winning squads after taking the role in January 2022. Ahead of the tournament, they have been very active on the field playing 12 times winning 6, drawing on 4 occasions and losing 2. They have one more game against Guinea on the 19th of July before the Olympics begin,
Group B
Argentina Morocco Ukraine Iraq
Interestingly, the Argentinian squad is almost entirely composed of domestic talent aside from their three overage selections, keeper Rulli, defender Otamendi and attacker Alvarez. One player to watch will be creative midfielder Almada who plays his club football in the US with Atlanta United.
Morocco
Morocco are fourth favourites to claim the Olympic gold medal at odds of 10/1. Those odds suggest a 9.1% chance they win their first gold medal in the competition.
They are managed by Tarik Sektioui who was only appointed to the role last February. Since his appointment, their record has been mixed with a 1-0 defeat against Ukraine and a 2-01 win over Wales last March. At the beginning of June, they had a 2-2 draw against Belgium which proved to be their final game before the Olympics due to their fixture against Kosovo being cancelled.
Group B
Argentina Morocco Ukraine Iraq
Morocco have selected keeper Kajoui, PSG defender Hakimi and attacker Rahimi as their three overage players. My player to watch is attacking midfielder Eliesse Ben Seghir who switched from his birth nation (France) and their U19s to join up with the Moroccan Senior squad last March and already has 1 goal in 4 caps.
USA
The USA are favourites to claim the Olympic gold medal at odds of 20/1. Those odds suggest a 4.8% chance they win their first gold medal in the event after a silver back in 1904.
They are managed by Marko Mitrović who took the role following several assistant roles including with Reading and being the Head Coach of the USA U19s but was promoted to this role last September. Ahead of the tournament they defeated Guinea 3-0 in March and drew with France 2-2. In June they lost 0-2 to Japan but that was followed by a 0-1 win over Paraguay this month and will play Spain on the 18th of July before the Olympics commence.
Group A
France United States Guinea New Zealand
The three overage players in their squad are defenders Zimmerman and Robinson along with midfielder Mihailovic. My player to watch is Irish-qualified Jack McGlynn who is a midfielder who has brilliant technical ability and a very high ceiling in what he could achieve in the game.
