Punters on Red Alert After Amorim Axe

Former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has surged up the betting to take the hotseat at Old Trafford following the sacking of Ruben Amorim on Monday.

The Norwegian is reported to be interested in a return to the club as bosses weigh up their options, and punters are continuing to back a familiar face to steady the ship in the short term, with Solskjaer slashed into 5/2 (from 20/1) over the past 24 hours.

That makes him second favourite behind Darren Fletcher (7/4), who has taken charge on an interim basis ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Burnley. BOYLE Sports will pay out on a caretaker boss if they complete ten successive competitive matches in charge of the side, with another former United midfielder, Michael Carrick, in the frame at 6/1.

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is a 4/1 shot, with Gareth Southgate (8/1), Enzo Maresca (8/1) and Xavi (14/1) among the more experienced managers reported to be on the shortlist.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:

“There are a number of candidates being backed for the Old Trafford hotseat, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been one of the standout movers in the market so far, going from outsider to serious contender in a matter of hours.”
