The PGA Tour vs LIV Golf Story
The announcement on Tuesday the 6th of June that the PGA Tour and LIV Golf would form some sort of merger sent shockwaves through the golf world. There has been controversy around LIV Golf ever since the Saudi funded tour came into existence and offered an alternative to the PGA Tour for the world's best golfers. The big draw for LIV Golf was the lucrative money on offer to the top golfers if they joined. The PGA had strongly fought against LIV Golf and lobbied players not to leave mostly on moral grounds of where the LIV Golf money was coming from. Any players that left the PGA Tour for the LIV tour were threatened with bans from ever returning to the PGA Tour. Now it appears that the PGA Tour have done a total 180 and joined forces with LIV Golf along with the DP World Tour also. This decision came as a shock to PGA Tour players who hadn't been involved in the decision and now puts PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan's job at risk.PGA Tour Commissioner Sacking/Resignation Odds
Jay Monahan’s position as commissioner of the PGA Tour is under threat according the latest odds with BoyleSports following the shock merger with LIV Golf. The PGA Tour Commissioner is 5/1 to be sacked or resign from his role by the end of 2023. Double major champion Collin Morikawa revealed that he learnt of the news on Twitter. What The PGA Tour/LIV Golf Merger Means For The Ryder Cup
The chances of Team USA lifting the Ryder Cup have been boosted by the surprise development as the Americans have been clipped into 4/7 from 4/6 to win in Italy later this year. PGA Champion Brooks Koepka was expected to qualify for the USA side in his own right, but the shock move may open the door for the likes of major winners Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed and Bryson DeChambeau, who were all struggling to qualify having defected to the Saudi funded tour.Ryder Cup veterans Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia and Ian Pouter may be back in the frame for the European side, but they have been eased slightly to 15/8 from 7/4, while the chances of LIV Golf rebel Henrik Stenson retuning to the captain's role he lost to Luke Donald look unlikely at 33/1.Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said:“This bombshell landed totally out of the blue but the leading lights of the PGA Tour appear to have been blindsided too, so now we're taking bets on Jay Monahan falling on his sword.”It will be fascinating to see how this whole situation plays out with both the PGA Tour and LIV Golf's top players set to all meet up again next week at the US Open. Scottie Scheffler is rated as the PGA Tour's top hope and favourite to win the year's third major. On the other hand, the LIV's best chance for the 2023 US Open is Brooks Koepka although it appears that all these players will be on the same 'team' soon enough based on Tuesday's annoucement.Click Below For Odds Related To The The PGA/LIV Merger*Prices subject to fluctuation
