Could we be in for a scorcher in Ireland this summer? There’s reason to believe so as we look at the odds on a new record temperature being recorded in the coming months.
Irish Record Temperature Odds Cut
Forecasts of heavy showers have failed to dampen optimism amongst Irish weather watchers who have backed the chances of a new temperature record being set this summer into 5/1 from 10/1 with BoyleSports.
Hottest April On Record
Scientists at the EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service revealed last week that April 2024 was the hottest on record while parts of the country could have been mistaken for the Mediterranean at the weekend with temperatures reaching as high as 24°C in Dublin.
While the latest forecasts from Met Éireann predict wet spells this week, temperatures are still expected to be in the 20s and now Irish punters are hoping to cash in on the hottest summer on record.
They will be hoping the mercury goes beyond the 33.3°C clocked at Kilkenny Castle in 1887, which remains the highest official temperature ever recorded in Ireland. The record was threatened in the summer of 2022, when a Phoenix Park reading of 33°C fell just short of rewriting the history books.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said:
“The rain might be falling but the temperatures aren’t and with Irish punters so hot on a record summer, we’re sure to be sweating it out in the coming months.”
