Bronsan and O’Brien set sights on €270,000 feature race
The Joseph O’Brien-trained Nurburgring is seeing significant support with BOYLE Sports to win this year’s Galway Plate as the countdown begins to the bonanza of racing in Ballybrit.
The Bronsan Racing owned five-year-old was a hugely impressive seven-length winner of last year’s Galway Hurdle and connections have now turned their attention to scooping another big prize and becoming the first horse since Ansar in 2001/04 to do the famous double.
A fourth-place finish in Cheltenham’s Jack Richards Novices' Handicap Chase and a fine second in the Ascot Stakes already adorn Nurburgring’s seasonal record and confidence is growing that he has been primed for the Galway Plate having run out a ready winner at Killarney in his prep run.
Zoffany Favoured
Odds of 8/1 were available on the son of Zoffany scooping the €270,000 feature just days ago, but as punters weigh-in on the festival highlight, he has been backed all the way into 4/1 favourite.
JP McManus’s Down Memory Lane (8/1), previous Galway winner Thecompanysergeant (8/1) and dual Cheltenham Festival winner, Jazzy Matty (12/1) head the chasing pack for Wednesday’s big race.
Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:
“We’re still a week out from the feature of the Galway Races, but punters are already having their say on who will win the Plate. Jazzy Matty is amongst a host of eye-catching entries but we’ve seen a significant antepost punt on Nurburgring adding his name to the list of those that have completed the Hurdle/Plate double.”
