Former RTÉ Correspondent Also Backed For Election Success
Carberry Set To Seal A Seat
The latest betting suggests Nina Carberry could be on her way to the European Parliament after she went odds-on at 4/5 with BoyleSports to take one of the seats up for grabs in next week’s Euro elections.
Running A Different Race
The former jockey has seven Cheltenham Festival winners on her CV, but faces a very different style of race next week when she runs for Fine Gael in the Midlands-North-West constituency, which is offering five seats.
Competition For Fifth
The odds now put Carberry in the top five in the betting, although she could be in a battle for the fifth and final seat with Michelle Gildernew (Sinn Féin), Paedar Tobin (Aontu), Maria Walsh (Fine Fael) and Lisa Chambers (Fianna Fáil) hot on her heels in the list of likely candidates to succeed.
Ming Leads The Way
There seems to be less concern for Independent candidate Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan who looks certain to retain his seat at odds of 1/16, while Carberry isn’t the only runner backed to benefit from a career change as former RTÉ reporter Ciaran Mullooly is a well backed 4/11 shot to claim a seat.
Sinn Féin’s Chris McManus (2/5) and Fianna Fáil’s Barry Cowen (4/7) are the other candidates ahead of Carberry in the betting.
Lawrence Lyons, Spokesperson for BoyleSports commented:
“Nina Carberry showed her flexibility on Dancing with the Stars and punters seem to think she’ll poll well, so the odds just favour her to pass the winning post.”
