Approaching the halfway point of the regular season, we’re hoping to hit top form with our NFL Week 8 predictions.
We’re backing three handicap picks on Sunday – the Vikings, Cowboys and Rams – which combine for a treble at just under 11/2.
Lions vs Vikings
MINNESOTA VIKINGS +3.5 POINTS AT DETROIT LIONS @ 5/6
The Vikings still have work to do on offence but their stellar defence, led by the evergreen Harrison Smith, ensured they remained the league’s last unbeaten team at 6-0 following a 16-10 triumph over the Indianapolis Colts. That was another solid, rather than spectacular performance, but Minnesota keep finding ways to win and the momentum that brings is a massive factor in any sport.
Despite putting in a scrappy performance , Detroit improved to 4-2 by edging out the Green Bay Packers and have now prevailed in all three of their home games this term, but each of those have been tight tussles, so getting more than a field goal start for the Vikings is good value.

Cowboys vs Cardinals
DALLAS COWBOYS -6.5 POINTS TO BEAT ARIZONA CARDINALS @ 20/23
The Cowboys haven’t kicked on in the way we hoped after some bold off-season moves on defence but Monday night’s 38-21 romp away to the Philadelphia Eagles reminded everyone what they can do when it clicks .
At 3-4, Dallas need to put a good run together to climb back up the rankings and with the Cardinals and then the Colts up next, that is very much achievable. Arizona fell to 2-5 after putting in a poor display when going down 30-16 at home to the Denver Broncos, which means their losing margins this term have now been six, 12, 14 and 24 twice.
Rams vs Chargers
LOS ANGELES RAMS -6.5 POINTS TO BEAT LOS ANGELES CHARGERS @ 20/23
This battle of Los Angeles is far from the blockbuster event anticipated at the start of the season, with the Rams slipping from ante-post favourites for Super Bowl glory to a moderate 3-4 record and the Chargers failing to post a single win so far.
At least the Rams are coming off a convincing 35-21 road victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, when Kyren Williams and Blake Corum both ran riot on the ground, Matthew Stafford threw three touchdown passes and the defence was pretty dominant until easing up late on.
For the Chargers, a bye week provided some much-needed respite from a lifeless campaign which reached a new low when losing 22-6 away to the Kansas City Chiefs, so it isn’t hard to take them on with less than a touchdown start.
