With the new NFL season now in full swing, teams will be looking to make an early statement of intent.

Texans vs Bengals

After starting out with a 36-31 home loss to the Buffalo Bills, the Texans can ill afford another defeat at Reliant Stadium, but in all fairness, there were some positive aspects to that opening setback.
New running back David Montgomery made an immediate impact with two touchdowns, while quarterback C.J. Stroud passed for a couple more scores and 274 yards until an unfortunate fumble in the final minute ended any hope of victory.
Now, Houston just need their much-vaunted defence to find the kind of form which led to 10 straight wins late on last season, which would put Bengals QB Joe Burrow under pressure after he picked up a slight back injury in last week’s 33-27 triumph over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Chargers vs Raiders
LOS ANGELES CHARGERS -6.5 POINTS TO BEAT LAS VEGAS RAIDERS @ 20/23
The Chargers were on the wrong end of a major upset when going down 26-14 to the Arizona Cardinals first up but we’re banking on head coach Jim Harbaugh to read the riot act ahead of his side being hot home favourites again. This is a team which has posted rock-solid 11-6 records in each of the last two seasons and began the new term by being strongly tipped to make the play-offs once more.
Las Vegas are looking to improve on woeful campaigns of 4-13 in 2024 and 3-14 last term but we need to see more evidence than a 27-13 triumph over probably the worst side in the league in the Miami Dolphins before fearing the Raiders.

Cowboys vs Commanders
WASHINGTON COMMANDERS +4.5 POINTS AT DALLAS COWBOYS @ 10/11
Washington’s revamped defence made a really good initial impression in last week’s 24-22 road loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, with their big-money free agency signings and top draft pick Sonny Styles all showing up well.
If the Commanders hadn’t committed a couple of silly errors, they would have at least taken that game into overtime, with veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs looking like another shrewd acquisition.
It is asking a lot of Dan Quinn’s side to front up again in Dallas, but the Cowboys are coming off a very moderate display in a 28-20 defeat at the New York Giants and this may be a decent time to take them on.
