In this post I share my Chiefs vs Texans prediction and tips with you as we break down the betting odds, team news and matchups ahead of this AFC Divisional round matchup in the NFL.
The Chiefs are of course the reigning back-to-back Super Bowl champions. They are led by superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes who is already a certain hall of famer at only 29 years of age. A young, but talented, Texans team will travel to Kansas City this week full of confidence after a 20-point wildcard win against a fancied Chargers outfit.
Will the Chiefs continue in their quest for a 3rd straight Super Bowl appearance or can Houston cause a playoff shock? Let’s dive into how these teams match up and everything else you need to know about this game.

Chiefs vs Texans Head-To-Head
All-Time Head-To-Head Record
The Kansas City Chiefs lead the all-time series between these teams 10-5. The Chiefs have also had the better of recent matchups with a 4-1 record in their last 5 outings against the Texans.
Recent Head-To-Head Games
The last time these teams met was less than a month ago when the Chiefs beat the Texans 27-19 at home.
The Key Matchups
Quarterback: Mahomes v Stroud
The Chiefs have a big edge at quarterback with Patrick Mahomes, a 3x Super Bowl champion and 2-time regular season MVP. Mahomes hasn’t been at his usual high level this season but you could largely put that down to this team just going through the motions in the regular season. I’d expect to see the Mahomes football fans know and love on Saturday.
On the other side, Texans QB C.J. Stroud is undoubtedly uber talented but he has struggled this season with shaky offensive line play and injuries at the receiving position contributing to a sophomore slump for the young quarterback.
Head Coach: Reid v Ryans
At Head Coach you’d also have to give the edge to the Chiefs with Andy Reid having won 3 Super Bowl and 15 division titles as a head coach in this league. DeMeco Ryans is a highly regarded ascending Head Coach too with a 2-1 playoff record through his first 2 years.
Offence
On offence, you would give the nod to the Chiefs over the Texans. The statistics from the regular season are pretty similar. However, you expect this Chiefs offence to be a different animal in the playoffs as the back-to-back Super Bowl champions find a spark again for these big occasions under a Mahomes-led offence.
Defence
The defenses are also pretty similar statistically but once again you’d lean towards the Chiefs here given that they will have home advantage with a raucous Arrowhead crowd sure to make communicating at the line of scrimmage a nightmare for C.J. Stroud and this Texans offence.
Chiefs vs Texans Weather Forecast
The early forecast predicts that it will be very cold for this NFL Divisional round game with Saturday’s predicted high of -3°C and low of -14°C.
Chiefs v Texans Tips
Handicap Betting: Chiefs -8.5 @ 10/11
The Chiefs have won all their home games this season and should cover the spread given their playoff pedigree and recent dominance over the Texans.
Total Points: Over 42.5 @ 20/21
Both teams have been involved in high-scoring games recently, and the Chiefs’ ability to put up points combined with the Texans’ vulnerable red zone defence suggests the total points will go over 42.5.
Anytime Touchdown Scorer: Travis Kelce @ Evens
Kelce is Mahomes’ go-to weapon in high-stakes games. Expect him to find big 87 in the red zone on Saturday night.
Chiefs vs Texans Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Chiefs 30 Texans 17
The Kansas City Chiefs should win this matchup comfortably. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have the experience and firepower to outclass a young Texans team, particularly at home in the playoff atmosphere of Arrowhead Stadium. While the Texans have shown promise, especially in their dominant Wild Card win, the challenge of overcoming Kansas City’s stellar defence and Mahomes-led offence is likely too much.
Best Bet: Chiefs -8.5 @ 10/11
The Chiefs have the talent, playoff experience, and home advantage to win by two scores in this game.
