Eagles vs LA Rams Head-To-Head
All-Time Head-To-Head Record
The Eagles lead the all-time series against the Rams 24-20-1. Philadelphia has also had the better of recent matchups with a 4-1 record in their last 5 encounters against the Rams.
Recent Head-To-Head Games
These teams most recently played in November of this season when the Eagles won comfortably 37-20 in Los Angeles.
The Key Matchups
Quarterback: Jalen Hurts v Matthew Stafford
It’s difficult to say who has the edge at quarterback in this game. If we are talking about passing from the pocket then it’s obvious that Rams QB Matthew Stafford is a superior passer to Hurts of the Eagles. However, the offensive styles of these teams are so contrasting that this factor isn’t overly important.
The Eagles love to run the ball with Saquon Barkley and off of that running success they will use plenty of play action to get their receivers running down the field in plenty of space and also use the legs of Jalen Hurts plenty to cause problems for opposing defences. Hurts dropping back and passing without the use of play action is a pretty rare occurrence.
The Rams on the other hand are much more traditional on offence. They mix run and pass with plenty of traditional drop-back passing from Matthew Stafford.
Head Coach: Nick Sirianni v Sean McVay
The advantage at Head Coach has to go to Sean McVay here. McVay has led the Rams to two Super Bowl appearances in his time with the franchise and most importantly a Super Bowl win in 2022. The Rams Head Coach has a reputation as one of the brightest offensive minds in the league and is more than capable of adjusting on the fly in games.
Nick Sirianni has come under a lot of criticism during his time as Eagles Head Coach. This comes despite his team’s success. Under his leadership, the Eagles made it to the Super Bowl in Sirianni’s first year before ultimately falling short by 3 points against the Chiefs in the big game. Last year they also started off strong before collapsing in the second half of the season which led many to call for the dismissal of the coach.
This year the Eagles look back to their best but this time around few people are looking to give Sirianni praise for the team’s success.
Offence
The Eagles love to run the ball on offence and who can blame them given how good they are at it. Saquon Barkley rushed for over 2,000 yards this season and could have broken the single-season rushing record had he not rested in week 18.
Everything about this Eagles offence stems from their success running the ball. Even at quarterback, Jalen Hurts is one of the best rushing threats in the league at the position. Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore likes to use a lot of play-action passing to keep opposing defences off balance as they also try to contain Philadelphia’s talented receiving core.
The Rams also have a very talented receiving core on paper with WRs Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua and TE Tyler Higbee. A big concern for LA however is the recent performances of Kupp. The 31-year-old was considered a top-5 receiver in the league only a couple of years ago but he has struggled this season as it looks like his best days might be behind him.
Luckily for the Rams, 2nd-year receiver Nacua has taken the mantle as the team’s best receiver but they will likely need Kupp to resemble his former self if they are to have success on offence in this game.
I’d give the Eagles the edge here.
Defence
The Eagles have the advantage between these two defences.
Philadelphia have the best defence in the league judging by the eye test and many key defensive metrics. This unit is super talented with a stingy defensive front that matches up well against the run and the pass along with talent at linebacker and in the secondary.
With a loud home crowd, they are a nightmare for any opposing offence and will make the Rams work hard for every yard on Sunday.
Los Angeles’ defence doesn’t boast incredible stats from the regular season. However, this unit was among the best in the league down the home stretch of the season and showed up once again against a top Vikings defence.
They held Minnesota to just 9 points in the wildcard round and could cause problems for an Eagles offence which struggled for large periods in their wildcard matchup against the Packers.
Eagles vs LA Rams Weather Forecast
Snow and rain are in the forecast in Philadelphia on Sunday with a high of 5°C and a low of -7°C. That forecast is accurate as of Wednesday evening and could change in the meantime.
If this forecast does hold then that could work in favour of the Eagles running game and make life more difficult for the Rams passing game.
Eagles vs LA Rams Tips
Handicap Betting: Eagles -5.5 @ 10/11
The Eagles have the league's top-ranked defence and a dominant home record (9-1), while their offence thrives on a punishing run game led by Saquon Barkley. With the Rams' defence ranking 25th in yards allowed per game, Philadelphia has the edge to cover the 5.5-point handicap.
Total Points: Under 43.5 @ 20/21
Both defences are strong, with Philadelphia allowing the fewest points per game this season and the Rams showing improvement in recent weeks.
Additionally, snowy and rainy conditions in Philadelphia could further limit scoring opportunities, favouring a low-scoring contest.
Saquon Barkley 2+ TDs @ 7/4
The Eagles’ offence revolves around Barkley's dominance in the run game, especially in the red zone. Given his form and the Rams' vulnerability against the run, Barkley scoring multiple touchdowns offers solid value here at 7/4.
The talented running back went for 255 yards and 2 touchdowns when these teams met at the end of November this season.
Eagles vs LA Rams Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Eagles 24-13 LA Rams
Philadelphia’s dominance at home and league-best defence give them the edge against a Rams team that I think will struggle to match their offensive firepower, especially with a Cooper Kupp who looks like his best years are behind him.
Best Bet: Under 43.5 points @ 20/21
