With Vitor Pereira having paid the price for a miserable start to the season, we’re taking a look at the next Wolves manager odds to see who could replace him.
Pereira only put pen to paper on a new contract on September 16, but was dismissed after Saturday’s 3-0 loss at Fulham left Wanderers without a Premier League win this term and bottom of the table.
Wolves have a history of making left-field selections – few had heard of Pereira before his appointment – but there are some big names available, and these are the leading contenders to step in:
Gary O'Neil
Gary O’Neil @ 10/11
The former midfielder succeeded Julen Lopetegui in the Molineux hotseat in August 2023 and had a promising first campaign in charge, finishing 14 th in the league and reaching the FA Cup quarter-finals.
Early results were not good the following season, and O’Neil was sacked in mid-December, but he appeared to part on reasonable terms, with chairman Jeff Shi stating: "We're very grateful to Gary for all of his effort, dedication and hard work during his time at the club."
Rob Edwards
Rob Edwards @ 7/2
Made more than 100 appearances for Wanderers as a defender and was assistant to Kenny Jackett before taking charge for a couple of games on an interim basis in 2016.
Has since gone on to carve out a successful career in management, securing promotions with Forest Green Rovers and Luton, and currently leading Middlesbrough to second place in the Championship.
Rui Borges
Rui Borges @ 6/1
Wolves have a strong connection with Portugal, and Borges could follow compatriots Nuno Espirito Santo, Bruno Lage and Pereira to the Black Country.
The 44-year-old has certainly impressed since switching to coaching, doing well with Moreirense and Vitoria de Guimaraes before helping Sporting Lisbon to retain the Primeira Liga title.
Brendan Rodgers
Brendan Rodgers @ 7/1
The Northern Irishman could be keen to get straight back into work following his recent exit from Celtic.
He saved Leicester from relegation before turning them into perennial top-six challengers and may fancy doing the same at Molineux.
Kevin Muscat
Kevin Muscat @ 10/1
The former midfielder played over 200 times for Wolves between 1997 and 2002 and would be a favourite among the fans.
After building a reputation in Asia, he recently turned down the chance to manage Rangers after advanced talks, but an emotional return to Molineux might be too hard to resist.
Sergio Conceicao
Sergio Conceicao @ 10/1
With super-agent Jorge Mendes pulling the strings at Molineux, it might not be wise to look too far past a Portuguese manager, and Conceicao could fit the bill.
The former Porto and AC Milan boss is just weeks into a new job at Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad, but he might find a crack at the Premier League an attractive proposition.
Erik Ten Hag
Erik Ten Hag @ 16/1
Ten Hag is out of work following his ruthless exit from Bayer Leverkusen after just two league games of the season.
The Dutchman has unfinished business in the Premier League following his spell at Manchester United, which brought two trophies.
