With Russell Martin having been put out of his misery, we’re taking a look at the leading contenders to replace him in the next Rangers manager odds.
Martin presided over only one victory in seven league games in charge, and a club statement said: “While all transition periods require some time, results have not met the club’s expectations.”
With Rangers in the bottom half of the Scottish Premiership, these are the favourites to fill the Ibrox hotseat:

Steven Gerrard
STEVEN GERRARD @ EVS
The former Liverpool and England captain achieved hero status after he led Rangers to the title in 2021, thwarting Celtic’s bid for a record 10-in-a-row, and would no doubt still be a popular choice among supporters.
That is the only time they have managed to interrupt the Hoops’ dominance over the past 14 years, and even though his decision to then leave for Aston Villa hurt the Ibrox faithful, those wounds will have surely healed.
Sean Dyche
SEAN DYCHE @ 11/4
A connection with sporting director Kevin Thelwell from time spent together at Everton means recruiting currently out-of-work Dyche would presumably be a smooth procedure.
The 54-year-old Englishman may have had his ups and downs during managerial spells with Watford, Burnley and the Toffees, but he is generally well respected, while his old-school image and tough, no-nonsense approach may seem like a refreshing change to Martin.
Kevin Muscat
KEVIN MUSCAT @ 4/1
Another Ibrox old boy, who was part of the 2002-03 Treble-winning squad, Muscat has made a real impression since joining the managerial ranks , securing titles in Australia, Japan and China.
The ex-Socceroos international is currently in China with Shanghai Port, who are on course to defend their Super League crown, so it would take a serious offer to tempt him back to the UK.
Danny Rohl
DANNY ROHL @ 6/1
The German built up a strong reputation for his coaching skills as an assistant with RB Leipzig, Southampton, Bayern Munich and his country’s national team before becoming the youngest manager in the English Football League when taking charge of Sheffield Wednesday.
The 36-year-old left the crisis-hit Owls by mutual consent just before the current campaign began, but could be seen as the kind of forward-thinking boss needed to turn things around at Ibrox.
Derek McInnes
DEREK McINNES @ 8/1
The former Rangers midfielder is doing a superb job at Hearts, leading the ambitious Edinburgh club to the top of the table after switching from Kilmarnock over the summer.
However, if approached, McInnes would have to weigh up how the lure of his boyhood club compares to the increasing positivity which surrounds the Tynecastle outfit at this moment.
