Ruud van Nistelrooy Now Favourite To Replace Ten Hag At Old Trafford
Ruud van Nistelrooy has been backed into 2/1 favourite with BoyleSports to be the next permanent manager at Manchester United as pressure continues to be heaped on Erik ten Hag.
Sunday’s 3-0 humbling at home to Tottenham made it three league defeats in six for the Red Devils who now lie 12th in the Premier League table, already eight points behind pacesetters Liverpool.
Fan favourite Van Nistelrooy rejoined his former club in the summer as Ten Hag’s assistant but is now being tipped for the top job, with pressure on the Dutch manager threatening to reach breaking point ahead of tricky away fixtures this week at Porto and Aston Villa.
Van Nistelrooy has limited coaching experience having only had one season as a manager at senior level. The former Man United striker had success in that spell though as he led PSV to a domestic cup, 2nd place league finish plus the Johan Cruyff Shield (the Dutch equivalent of the Community Shield).
Ten Hag Now Odds-on Favourite To Be First Manager Out
Ten Hag has plummeted in to 4/7 favourite to be the first managerial casualty of the Premier League campaign, with former England manager Gareth Southgate also prominent in the betting to replace the beleaguered boss should part owners Ineos trigger a change in the dugout.
Next Man United Manager Favourites
Thomas Tuchel, who was reportedly approached about a possible succession in the summer, is 6/1 third favourite for the Old Trafford hotseat ahead of Ipswich boss and former United coach Kieran McKenna.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said:
“Punters are increasingly certain time is up for Erik ten Hag and we’re keeping a close eye on his right hand man. Gareth Southgate has been a prominent name since the Euros, but there has been a significant shift in support towards Van Nistelrooy in recent days.”
