Micheál Martin | 8/1 |
Darragh O’Brien Early Favourite To Become Next Finance Minister
Darragh O’Brien is the 7/4 favourite with BoyleSports to replace Michael McGrath if the Finance Minister is put forward for the role of EU Commissioner this week.
Fianna Fáil is due to nominate a successor to Mairead McGuinness as part of the coalition deal and widespread reports suggest that Micheál Martin will trigger another change around the Cabinet table by nominating McGrath.
And speculation is already underway on a new Minister for Finance should McGrath land the plum EU job, even though he may be in place to deliver the coalition’s final budget as the current commission remains in office until November.
Lawrence Lyons, Spokesperson for BoyleSports commented:
“Punters are banking on another mini reshuffle in Cabinet and while Jack Chambers and Norma Foley are very much in the mix, Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien has been singled out as an early frontrunner for the Finance gig.”
Jack Chambers is also considered a prominent contender at 2/1 after the Dublin West TD was named as Fianna Fáil Deputy Leader last week, while Kerry TD Norma Foley is 7/2 third favourite according to the betting stakes. Odds of 8/1 are available on former Deputy Dara Calleary landing the Finance portfolio if it becomes available.
