Punters bet on Ben to be Rebels boss
Ben O’Connor is the runaway favourite to be appointed manager of Cork’s senior hurlers after Pat Ryan confirmed he was stepping down from the role.
Ryan led Cork to two All-Ireland finals during his three-year stint in charge, but both ended in defeat as Clare and Tipperary beat the Rebels to the Liam MacCarthy Cup in 2024 and 2025.
A clear frontrunner has emerged with the oddsmakers to replace Ryan, with O’Connor, a three-time All-Ireland winner with Cork as a player, rated a hot 1/5 shot with BOYLE Sports to get the job.
O’Connor guided the Cork U20 side to All-Ireland success in 2023 and leads Tomas Mulcahy (10/3), Noel Furlong (5/1) and Johhny Crowley (10/1) in the early betting.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:
“Ben O’Connor has long been regarded as a successor and punters clearly think the time has come. He’s attracting the majority of the early bets and confidence is growing that he’ll be the one to take the reins at the Rebels.”
