We have a Newcastle vs. Liverpool prediction and preview plus betting odds for you ahead of Sunday afternoon’s massive Premier League clash.
Newcastle had a difficult run of fixtures at the start of their season, first up they demolished Aston Villa 5-1 before losing out narrowly to Manchester City 1-0 last weekend to make it three points from their two games, next up it doesn’t get much easier with them hosting Liverpool in St James’ Park.
Liverpool have had an interesting start to their season, opening it with a respectable 1-1 draw in Stamford Bridge before coming from behind to beat Bournemouth 3-1, but this remains their toughest test of the season.

Their pre-season went well also with them earning five wins, two draws and zero defeats. Their wins game 2-3 against Gateshead, 1-2 against Rangers, 1-2 against Brighton, 2-0 against Florentina and 4-0 against Villareal while their draws came in a 3-3 against Aston Villa and 1-1 against Chelsea.
Newcastle have made some solid signings during the summer, with Tonali coming straight into the starting line-up after signing from AC Milan for £55,000,000. Elsewhere the additions of n Barnes, Livramento, and Minteh along with the loan signings of Lewis Hall making their squad stronger for the Champions League. Although the loss of Allan Saint-Maximin to Al-Ahli for £23,000,000 will be a loss.
Newcastle in their opening games of the season demolished Aston Villa 5-1 with goals from Sandro Tonali, and a double from Alexander Isak, Callum Wilson and Harvey Barnes. They scored those goals from an XG of 3.3 and conceded an XG of 1.8. Last weekend they travelled to face Manchester City and lost out narrowly after restricting them to an XG of 1 goal although they only created an XG of 0.3 themselves.
There’s been a lot of change at the club during the off-season with departures with the strong baulk of the midfield, Milner, Keita, Chamberlain, Henderson and Fabinho and striker Firminho all leaving the club. They have made some decent acquisitions in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai which will freshen up the squad, but what remains to be seen is whether enough bodies have gone through the door at Anfield to replace the considerable amount of experience lost.
Pre-Season has been interesting for the club with three wins, one defeat and one draw in their five official matches. However, one cause for concern is despite scoring eighteen goals across their five matches they also conceded eleven goals. Liverpool started their season 1-1 away in Stamford Bridge it was probably a fair result with each side creating an XG of 1.3 and 1.4 respectively.
Liverpool came from behind most recently to beat Bournemouth 3-1 in a match where they created an XG of 3.0 and conceded an XG of 1.3. It remains to be seen how good this Liverpool team is though, and Newcastle will prove the litmus test.

Newcastle have got a slightly easier fixture this weekend following their narrow defeat against Manchester City last weekend. But it doesn’t get that much easier, Liverpool awaits them who have had the better of this fixture winning the last four.
I think Newcastle win this one narrowly.

Liverpool’s Form
Liverpool had a disappointing season last year having entered the season as EFL Cup and FA Cup champions, they would end the season trophyless and finishing arguably an even more disappointing fifth-place in the Premier League.
