Newcastle are unbeaten to start their season (albeit not the most convincingly) with 4 points from their opening two league games.
Tottenham come into this game with an identical league record, but their 4-0 win over Everton last weekend was very convincing (even if Everton are in chaos).

Newcastle v Tottenham Preview
Newcastle’s Form
Since the Saudi Takeover of the club, it’s been a constant rise in the club's stature albeit a slow but steady rise. They were victims of their performances from the previous season last year and despite impressing in the Champions League Groups, “The Group of Death” proved a step beyond them but that was followed by a 7th league finish and Quarter-Finals in both the EFL and FA Cup. With no European Football this season the next step should be a trophy for the club in a cup competition.
Last weekend despite dominating 61% of possession they came unstuck to a more dangerous Bournemouth side who from 16 shots accumulated an XG of 2.54 and scored one to Newcastle’s 14 shots 1,89 XG and one goal. Had it not been for a late Gordon goal they’d have left the Vitality Stadium pointless.
Newcastle despite home comforts will need to step it up Sunday if they’re to get a point in this fixture.

Tottenham’s Form
Ange Postecoglou garnered plenty of praise for his performances in his debut season at the helm particularly for their early season run. However, while I agree with that for the most part Tottenham concluded the 23/24 season having exited both cup competitions early and finishing 5th in the league, a typical Tottenham season finishing 2 points off the Champions League places. It’ll be interesting to see if they can build on those performances in the 24/25 season.
Tottenham last weekend put on a clinical shooting performance against Everton with 71% of possession and 13 shots for a cumulative XG of 2.61 turned into 4 goals with a Bissouma goal, a Son brace and a Romero finisher. Everton despite their 10 shots had only a cumulative XG of 0.65 meaning they failed to create any worthwhile opportunities.
Tottenham put on a brilliant display against Everton last weekend, but this game should give us a far better idea of where they lie in the Premier League hierarchy.

Key Players To Watch
Bruno Guimaraes – Newcastle
The Brazilian midfielder is one of the best in the league and has previously been linked to the likes of Man City. Not surprising for a Brazilian he is an elite dribbler and passer when compared to other central midfielders his 1.84 Successful take-ons per 90 put him in the 98th percentile and his 7.41 Progressive Passes in the 87th percentile.
Destiny Udogie – Tottenham
The Italian International is a throwback left-back who is consistently getting forward and taking on defenders, demonstrated by his 2.68 Attacking Penalty Touches Per 90 which puts him in the 94th percentile. He’s also a safe yet progressive passer with a completion rate of 85.7% and 5.88 Progressive Passes Per 90 both statistics are in the 92nd percentile.
Udogie is also a strong defender though, with great defensive awareness to read the play and make interceptions and has great recovery pace in the tackle too.
Newcastle v Tottenham Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Newcastle 1-1 Tottenham
Newcastle have had a slow start to their season in terms of their general performance levels, but one gets the impression it’s a matter of sooner rather than later that they put in a proper performance with the talent at their disposal.
Tottenham have an identical record to Newcastle, but their performance over Everton suggests that they’re playing closer to their squad's capacity at the start of the season than their opponents in this game.
Interestingly, there hasn't been a draw in their last six games between both sides and I have a sneaking suspicion that could be on the cards Sunday
