I think this shapes up to be a straight shootout between the top 3 horses in the betting market here with Bravemansgame (5/2f), Djelo (7/2), and Hitman (11/2) . It has that look to it of a veteran’s chase. There are plenty of horses in here with plenty of age on their side.
I'm going to stick with Djelo . I think he's the one that is open to more progression. He’s stepping up and trying this trip for the first time. It was a decent run behind Protektorat in Windsor the last day. I know he was beaten by a long way, but it was on ground that mightn't have been ideal for him. I think trying this trip on a bit nicer ground, I'm going to give him a chance.
Bravemansgame had a good run in Haydock this year when he was third behind Royale Pagaille. He wears his first-time tongue guy, which is quite interesting. He is definitely the class horse in the race, but he's 10 years of age now and I'd be opposing him. It would be Djelo for me.
Denman Chase Tip: Djelo – 7/2

Editor’s Note: Robbie was giving his race preview here before it was announced that Sir Gino is a non-runner for this race.
This is far from an easy run for Sir Gino (NR) , a horse that’s having only a second start over fences. It was a very good performance in Kempton at Christmas. There's no doubt about that. But I think there's a lot of horses in here with plenty of experience.
Matata was very impressive in a handicap in Windsor. Edwardstone had a good run behind Jonbon in the Clarence House Chase at Ascot in January but has loads of experience, he finished 10.5 lengths behind Jonbon that day.
Both Libberty Hunter and JPR One also have plenty of experience, they were impressive handicap winners earlier this season.
You'd like to see Sir Gino go and win, but he'll need to tick all the boxes. It would be a great education for him and Nicky Henderson would learn a lot in this race. If he were to go and beat these rivals, he'd be entitled to be a short-price favourite for the Arkle at Cheltenham.

For me, Secret Squirrel and Joyeuse are getting a lot of respect going into this race but they have got to go and prove it.
Joyeuse was second on handicap debut in Cheltenham just before Christmas in what was a good run where he was second to Wodhooh of Gordon Elliott. And that's ok for him. That's satisfactory for a first run in a handicap
Secret Squirrel looked well held when he fell at the last in the big handicap hurdle in Ascot just before Christmas but made amends for that in Wincanton in what was a moderate enough contest I thought.
The horse for me that ticks all the boxes form-wise is Harry Derham’s runner Washington . He won in Fairyhouse at their big winter festival back in early December when he beat Enniskerry who has since given the form a big boost, winning a competitive handicap at Leopardstown. I think he's the form horse in the race.
He comes into this after winning the big handicap, he's got that experience. If I were having a little punt in this race, I think Washington is the one.
If I were going to go against Washington, I'd go with Joyeuse . I think he's open to a bit more improvement, but has to improve to beat the likes of Washington. He’ll have ten stone seven on his back and he's entitled to show that improvement.
William Hill Hurdle Tip: Washington – 9/1
