Native River and Might Bite are 5/1 joint favourites for the 2019 Gold Cup after a thrilling dual in this year’s race.

Native River made all under Richard Johnson to hand trainer Colin Tizzard his first Gold Cup victory and deny Nicky Henderson a Championship race treble at this year’s Festival.

Anibale Fly, who finished in third place at 33/1, was immediately backed into 14/1 from 33/1 for the Grand National at Aintree and also closed to 14/1 from 20/1 to win the BoyleSports Irish Grand National on Easter Monday for Tony Martin.

BoyleSports reported that the final day of the Festival was their best of the week after a to-and-fro tussle with punters, with one winner returning at 25/1 and two others coming in at 33/1.

We were neck-and-neck with the punters heading into day four but defeats for the first three favourites gave us the edge. Native River was a popular antepost selection in the Gold Cup but with so much interest in the Irish horses it didn’t turn out to be the worst result in the book.
