Manchester City will look to end a run of four successive away defeats in the Champions League when they travel to 2004 runners-up Monaco.

Pep Guardiola’s men were beaten by Real Madrid, Paris St Germain, Juventus and Sporting Lisbon on their travels in the new-look competition last season, but we think they will return from the south of France with a three-point haul tomorrow.

The two clubs have met only twice before in UEFA competition, facing each other in the 2016/17 Champions League round of 16.

City claimed a 5-3 victory at the Etihad in a thrilling first-leg encounter but it was Monaco who would end up going through on away goals thanks to a 3-1 win at home, with an 18-year-old Kylian Mbappe netting in both games.

City have had a steady if unspectacular time of it as they rebuild under Guardiola and have won five of their eight games this season, losing two.

One of those wins came against 10-man Napoli in their Champions League opener and another victory this week would set them up nicely for some testing European fixtures to come, including a December trip to Real Madrid.

Guardiola’s side warmed up for Monaco with a 5-1 win over Burnley where Erling Haaland’s late double took his tally for the season to nine goals - not including the six he also managed on Norway duty at the start of September.
