Miriam O’Callaghan has been backed into the stand-alone favourite to be the next President of Ireland as speculation ramps up that she is set to run for the Áras.

The TV personality was supported into 6/1 from 8/1 this week""

...following the recent news that she is taking a break from her summer chat show, fuelling speculation of her throwing her hat into the ring for the next presidential election.

Ambiguous statements about her plans this week have done nothing to quell the rumours that she will stand, while another presidential hopeful Gerard Craughwell, who is a 33/1 shot to succeed Michael D. Higgins, called on the broadcaster and any other candidates to declare their intentions.

Before the market move, O’Callaghan had been joint favourite alongside Mairead McGuinness, Fergus Finlay and Emily O’Reilly at 8/1.

Sinn Féin have also hinted this week that they will field a candidate, but Gerry Adams has drifted to 20/1 from 14/1 after Mary-Lou McDonald suggested he won’t be put forward by the party.
