Japanese contenders drift after being handed tough draws
BOYLE Sports has reported that dual Oaks heroine Minnie Hauk is the best backed horse in their book ahead of this year’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
The Frankel filly is now the 7/2 favourite (from 9/2) with the firm but has not been handed an ideal draw in stall 1. The inside box has produced just one winner in the modern era, fellow three-year-old filly Zarkava who won the race in 2008.
Minnie Hauk has however fared considerably better than the leading Japan-trained runners with Croix Du Nord a 12/1 shot (from 8/1) having been allotted stall 17, while Byzantine Dream (10/1 from 8/1), will have to overcome stall 15.
Aventure Home Flagbearer
Aventure (9/2) is set to be the chief flagbearer for the home team having finished second in last year’s renewal with 2024’s fourth, Sosie who also carries the silks of the Wertheimer brothers, clipped into 10/1 (from 12/1) after being handed a plum draw in 3.
A notable recent race record for the UK which sees five of the last ten winners of the race hailing from British-based yards could be hard to build on this year, with just two horses making the trip across the channel. Marco Botti’s globetrotting Giavellotto is a 25/1 shot, while Kalpana (10/1 from 14/1) has attracted each-way support for Andrew Balding and Colin Keane as she bids to give Juddmonte a record eighth win in the race.

Punters have latched onto Minnie Hauk who gets all of the allowances and she’s the best backed horse in the book, but a Japan-trained winner would be truly special and they have a big chance of finally landing Europe’s richest race.”
