Miami GP Preview

The Miami Grand Prix is one of the newer races on the calendar with the race debuting only last year. Miami is fast becoming a key event for F1 as they try to continue their growth in America.

The weekend's racing is being held at the Miami International Autodrome which is a purpose-built temporary circuit around Hard Rock Stadium. The track is 3.363 mi (5.412 km) long and features 19 corners with an anticipated average speed of around 140 mph.

Max Verstappen - 4/9 Favourite

The Red Bull driver leads The Driver’s Championship by six points closely followed by teammate Sergio Perez following his double last weekend it is looking like an intriguing battle from the teammates for the title this year.

Max can consider himself unlucky not to have won last weekend after hitting George Russell in the sprint made him unable to challenge Leclerc for second. On Sunday a Safety Car prevented his challenge as he dropped to third, he was able to pass out Leclerc but could not catch Perez. Following the race he stated that he learned a lot from the weekend. Max won the first edition of this race last season.

Sergio Perez - 29/10 Second Favourite

Perez is coming into this weekend following victory in both the Sprint and the Grand Prix in Baku the only thing he didn’t achieve was the fastest lap qualifying third for the race and second in the Sprint shootout. This double took him to only six points behind his teammate in the Driver’s Championship

Perez can perhaps consider himself fortunate that his teammate Max Verstappen pitted before the Safety Car to gain the lead. However, even before that he was the faster Red Bull and had looked in a prime position to challenge his teammate. Perez finished fourth in this race last year, but he will fancy his chance of success at the weekend. He believes he is in a championship battle, and he certainly is.

Charles Leclerc - 12/1

The third favourite for this weekend is Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc who has had a turbulent start to the season. In the Bahrain Grand Prix he had a DNF, at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix he finished seventh in Australia he retired.

Last weekend he had his best result of the season, Leclerc qualified on pole for both the race and the Sprint but finished second in the 100km dash and third on Sunday.

In the improved SF-23, Leclerc twice beat both Red Bulls to qualify in P1, despite losing out to them in the end he was praised for how he drove to fend off Alonso  Ferrari on their first podium of the year in the Grand Prix.

Following the race Leclerc said that Ferrari 'absolutely maximised' Azerbaijan weekend after claiming the first podium of the season. Leclerc came second in this race last season.

Fernando Alonso - 14/1

The oldest F1 Driver on the grind at 41 years of age. The 2005 and 2006 Drivers Championship winner is still competing at the very top of the F1 Table.

Last weekend was the first time that Alonso has missed out on podium this season but that doesn’t tell the whole story. Following DRS issues last weekend he qualified sixth for the Grand Prix, and eighth in the Sprint Shootout.

During that race he performed excellently finishing sixth in the Sprint and getting up to fourth in the Grand Prix. Alonso produced arguably the highlight of the weekend with an opportunistic overtake on Carlos Sainz but was unable to chase down Leclerc for third. He was eleventh at this event last season.

Lewis Hamilton - 25/1

Lewis is coming into this race following a sixth-place finish for the seven-time world champion in Baku. Following the race he was critical of the safety car which “kicked me in the teeth” which resulted in him dropping from P5 to 10th.

Hamilton did showcase the tremendous driver craft he still has as he overtook Nico Hulkenberg, Esteban Ocon and teammate George Russell during the restart before capitalising on a Lance Stroll mistake to get up to sixth.

He could not get past Sainz for fifth and was forced to settle for his lowest finish of the season, although it was arguably one of his most impressive performances of the season so far.
