Melbourne Cup Tips
BoyleSports has installed the Willie Mullins-trained Vauban as the 9/2 favourite ahead of Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup at Flemington Racecourse.

A campaign that has seen the Susannah Ricci-owned gelding claim a Lonsdale Cup and finish second behind superstar stayer Kyprios in the Irish St Leger has punters relishing his return to Australia despite a below-par performance in last year’s renewal.
Vauban will be joined by stablemate Absurde (15/2) who is also having his second run in Flemington’s feature, with the Ebor and County Hurdle winner finishing seventh in 2023.

The major antepost mover has been British raider, Onesmoothoperator, who was a wide margin winner of the Geelong Cup. A 50/1 chance before his flight down under, the Brian Ellison-trained six-year-old’s odds were slashed into 12/1 before a renewed gamble saw him cut into just 7/1.

Sea King (9/1) completes the British and Irish contingent that has descended upon Melbourne for the feature race, while 11/2 second favourite Buckaroo, who is now in the care of Chris Waller, was previously trained by dual-Melbourne Cup-winning trainer, Joseph O’Brien.
Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “It’s Déjà vu down under with Vauban looking set to go off favourite for another Melbourne Cup, but the big antepost mover has been Onesmoothoperator as the UK & Ireland launch a formidable assault on the race that stops the nation.”
