Masters champ closes on Scheffler after surge in Scotland
Rory McIlroy has been clipped into 6/1 from 8/1 with BOYLE Sports to add a second Claret Jug to his trophy cabinet this week when he tees it up on home soil at The Open at Royal Portrush.
The Masters champion goes into the final major of the season buoyed by a resurgence in form after he fired a -13 total to finish tied-2nd at the Scottish Open in North Berwick last week.
As punters grow increasingly confident that the Holywood man can add a sixth major championship to his glittering CV, the latest betting moves mean there is just a whisker between McIlroy and current favourite Scottie Scheffler (5/1).
Lowry Supported
Shane Lowry is also seeking a second Claret Jug as he returns to the North Coast links with fond memories of his sole major victory at the same venue back in 2019. The Offaly native is now an 18/1 shot following strong local support, while other popular selections include 2019 runner-up Tommy Fleetwood (22/1 from 25/1) and US Open runner-up Robert MacIntyre (25/1 from 28/1).
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports said:
“Support is surging for Rory McIlroy and it’s clear many believe that his strong showing in Scotland means he’s peaking at just the right time to bag a major on home soil."
