Mayo v Tyrone Preview

Mayo’s Form

Mayo started their 2024 season finishing in the middle of Division 1 coming fourth place following a record of four wins and three defeats. In the Connacht Championship, they opened with a 2-06 to 2-21 win over New York, then had a 0-13 to 1-15 win over Roscommon before losing the final to Galway by a sole point in a 0-16 to 0-15 scoreline.

In the All-Ireland Groups, they finished second in their group with Dublin, Roscommon and Cavan only finishing below Dublin by a points difference of +20. Their All-Ireland journey ended in the preliminary Quarter-Finals after drawing 1-12 to 0-15 against Derry after extra time they lost 3-4 on penalties.

Mayo lost their opening fixture against Dublin 1-17 to 1-15 at Croke Park and were comprehensively beaten by Galway in a 0-16 to 0-26 scoreline.

Tyrone’s Form

Last year Tyrone finished fifth in Division 1 with a record of three wins and four defeats. In the Ulster Championship, they then opened with a 3-16 to 1-23 away victory over Cavan before losing in the semi-final 0-18 to 0-16 against eventual winners Donegal.

At the All-Ireland stage, they played out a competitive group with Donegal and Cork with all three sides finishing on four points with Clare finishing bottom of the group pointless. They advanced to the preliminary Quarter-Final where they were knocked out by Roscommon in a 0-12to 0-14 scoreline.

In their opening league game of 2025, Tyrone won 2-13 to 1-9 against Derry and followed that up with a 1-23 to 0-19 defeat against Ulster rivals and All Ireland Champions Armagh.

Key Players To Watch

Ryan O Donoghue

Since debuting for Mayo on the inter-county stage in 2020 the Belmullet Corner-Forward has been one of the most prolific scorers in the country scoring over five goals and over 100 points across his Championship games. This league campaign he is yet to come alive with only six points though.

Michael McKernan

The Right-Corner Back (27) who plays his club football for Coalisland has been playing with Tyrone since 2018. This season he is his county’s top scorer with one goal and six points from his opening two matches including two double-pointers he’s made the new rule something to his benefit.

Mayo v Tyrone Prediction & Best Bet

Prediction:  Mayo 0-16  Tyrone  1-15

Mayo are winless in their opening Division 1 games and another defeat here could put them in early relegation trouble.

Tyrone opened their campaign with a solid victory over Derry, but more recently were a few levels below in their defeat at the hands of Armagh

Tyrone are an attractive price for me in this game and I think they will do enough to win.

Best Bet: Tyrone -@ 11/10

Tyrone -1 - 11/10
