Masters Favourites
Scottie Scheffler
The favourite to win the Masters going into the final round on Sunday is Scottie Scheffler at odds of 20/23. That means Scheffler is more likely to win this tournament than not with a 53.5% chance.
The 2022 Masters Champion is at -7 and holds a 1-shot lead over Collin Morikawa ahead of the final round. Given Scheffler’s current form, he is deserving of odds-on favouritism despite a multiple-time major champion breathing down his neck.
If you plan on backing Scheffler, one thing to keep an eye on is that the world number one has declared that he will withdraw from the tournament if his wife, who is heavily pregnant, goes into labour.
When Scheffler won the Masters in 2022, to date his only major, he was 3 shots ahead going into the final round with 3rd place 5 shots back. On that occasion, he held his nerve to shoot a closing round 71 to maintain his 5-shot margin from the beginning of the day and secure a green jacket. However, this time he doesn’t have a 3-shot luxury with Collin Morikawa just one shot behind and 3rd place Max Homa just 2 shots back.
Collin Morikawa
The second favourite to win the Masters is Collin Morikawa at 10/3. Those odds suggest that Morikawa has a 23.1% chance of winning his first Masters this Sunday.
As mentioned previously, Morikawa is no stranger to major success having 2 major championship wins to his credit at the young age of 27. His first came in 2022 in the USPGA at Harding Park and he proved that was no fluke with his second major, The Open, at Royal St. George’s in 2021
Morikawa’s best finish at the Masters came in 2022 when he finished 5th. He was top 10 again last year so him being in contention this Sunday comes as little surprise.
Given the American’s major pedigree, previous form at Augusta and him being just one shot back of the lead, he is undoubtedly the best-placed player to mount a challenge to Scheffler on Sunday evening.
Max Homa
The third most likely winner of the 2024 Masters is Max Homa at 7/1 in the betting. Homa is at -5, just 2 shots back of Scheffler after shooting 67, 71 and 73.
The 33-year-old doesn’t have a strong record at the majors with just one top-10 finish (10th at the 2023 Open Championship) in 17 appearances at golf’s big 4 events.
At The Masters, he has only made the cut twice in 4 appearances so his performance so far this week comes as a surprise. However, he does have winning pedigree on the PGA Tour having 6 wins including a win at Riviera in 2021’s Genesis Invitational.
At 7/1 Homa looks to represent solid value given how he has played this week, that he is just 2 shots back of the lead, and also including the possibility that Scheffler could still pull out if his wife goes into labour.
Ludvig Aberg
Further out in the betting, we have Ludvig Aberg at 17/2 to win this year’s Masters. The 24-year-old has been a highly touted prospect and has begun to realise his potential on the top pro tours in the past year.
Aberg in his young professional career has just two wins which came at the 2023 RSM Classic and 2023 Omega European Masters. Following that victory at the European Masters, he was picked for the 2023 Ryder Cup by European Captain Luke Donald. That selection made him the first player selected for a Ryder Cup without having played in a major.
Aberg, who is -3 and in 4th place going into the final round, has impressed so far in his maiden major appearance and can’t be counted out this Sunday. He is an interesting wildcard although odds of 17/2 feel a little short to me but maybe one to keep an eye out for in play.
