Preview
Man United v West Ham Preview
Man United’s Form
Amorim is already reaching a critical point in his early tenure at United following their Europa League Final defeat at the end of last season to Tottenham. Progression in the league will need to be seen immediately, come the start of the 25/26 season. Though Cunha and Mbuemo have arrived at Old Trafford, more will be needed if the club is going to see tangible progression this season and finding a way to do so with a perceived lack of funds will be the issue in the next month for the hierarchy at the club.
Pre-season is often where we see managers experimenting with their tactics for the upcoming season, academy players and building on relationships between the new and existing players. In their opening game of pre-season, Amorim persisted with his 3-4-2-1 formation from last season in their 0-0 draw with Leeds and made a full 11 changes at halftime, including more in the 80th minute. The key takeaway for me would be that Amad started the game at RWB with Fernandes and Cunha partnering one another as the two 10s.
We could likely see a similar amount of changes between halves for this game, with the outside chance that more players might get up to an hour. However, the key thing to note for me will be how Amorim approaches the Cunha and Mbuemo potential pairing and how that will tie into Fernandes playing deeper come the start of the season.

West Ham’s Form
Like opposing manager Amorim, Potter also entered the dugout during last season, and so this is also his first pre-season at the club, given he came in last January. It was always going to be a summer where he looked to put his stamp on the squad. The arrival of Todibo on a Full Transfer, along with the signings of Malick Diouf and Walker-Peters, will be welcome additions, but the big departure of Kudus to Tottenham will be hard to replace.
While West Ham usually operated in a 4-2-3-1 formation last season, the personnel signed so far this transfer window have led to a potential change of system or at least the option to do so for 25/26. That hunch seems initially correct with Potter experimenting in their opening pre-season win against Grasshopper. The Hammers started with a 5-man defence in the first half before switching back to a 4 for the second half. The performance of new signing Malick Diouf in particular looked to be one of promise.
While Pre-Season is a lottery, West Ham head into this game with 4 wins in their last 5 matches against Man United. The latest of which came under Potter in a 0-2 win toward the end of last season. Though recent departure, Kudos got one of the assists; it’ll be interesting to note the performance of young Brazilian winger Guilherme if he starts this game.

Players To Watch
Key Players To Watch
Bryan Mbuemo – Man United
The long-running summer saga is over, and United have landed their man, Mbuemo, in a £65 million deal from Brentford for the 25-year-old Cameroonian International. Mbuemo looks to be the perfect profile of player for the Amorim system, a versatile left-footed attacker known for his pace, dribbling and finishing ability, which has seen him score 20 Premier League goals last season.
Malick Diouf - West Ham
The Hammer's summer signing to keep an eye out for is Senegalese International Malick Diouf (20), who signed from Slavia Prague this summer for £19 million. Malick is known for his very physical style of play, aggressive in his duels, with a strong work rate. His style should be well-suited to English Football.
Prediction & Best Bet
Man United v West Ham Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Man United 1-1 West Ham
This is a huge pre-season for Amorim and United, but it’s still early days, and you could see a fair deal of experimentation and change across the game.
Potter has been at the helm longer, and his side opened their pre-season with a win last weekend.
It’s very hard to predict these sorts of games, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see both sides cancelling one another out.
Best Bet: Draw – 5/2
