Man United v Tottenham Preview
Man United’s Form
Man United are a very different club to most. Despite gross underperformance and the decline of the club since the departure of Ferguson over a decade ago, they’re still held to expectation levels from supporters, pundits and the general public to perform like that era or face constant never-ending criticism. The back-to-back draws against Crystal Palace and Twente have ten Hag and his squad in an awkwardly familiar position again.
What’s interesting is that despite being 11th in the league on 7 points their Expected Points position of 7th and 8.62 points suggests something is a miss at the club and that is their chance conversion scoring just 5 goals from an XG of 10.21. There is a clear lack of goals in the team now which makes their defence always vulnerable.
Nothing other than a win will temporarily silence the doubters and even then that may not suffice but this is a huge game for ten Hag and his squad already at this early juncture in the season.

Tottenham’s Form
Ange Postecoglou did a decent job in his first season at Tottenham taking them from 8th to 5th but in a sense due to them being eliminated from both cup competitions early, it was still a typically Tottenham-type season. However, in the off-season, they bolstered their squad with Solanke, Gray and Odobert all joining while retaining their core squad. Ange has already confidently spoken about him winning trophies in each of his second seasons, though their early season start has been subpar, to say the least.
While Tottenham are currently 10th in the Premier League with 7 points from their opening 5 league matches, their statistical performance suggests that underestimates their performances. On the Expected Points Table, they’d have a total of 9.54 points, a total only bettered by Liverpool, Man City, Aston Villa and most interestingly Fulham.
Tottenham have claimed back-to-back wins in all competitions this last week and head to Old Trafford in better form as they look to strike another dagger into ten Hag’s prospects at Man United.

Key Players To Watch
Kobee Mainoo – Man United
Mainoo only broke into the Man United side last season and yet the pressure being put on the midfielder to perform is already ridiculously unfair on the kid when he came off the bench in the Europa League midweek the industry and composure he shows compared with every other player is night and day. As long as Man United don’t overplay him they’ve a World Class midfielder for the next decade or longer ahead of them.

Brennan Johnson – Tottenham
The Welsh International (23) performances have been one of few bright spots for Tottenham this season though he has only scored three times from seven games coming in their comeback win over Coventry, their 3-1 win over Brentford last weekend and in their 3-0 win over Qarabag last night He could cause the United defence problems on Sunday.
Man United v Tottenham Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Man United 1-1 Tottenham
Man United can seemingly never turn that corner and are always just a few poor results away from a media-driven state of chaos though there are certainly questions to be asked of players and management.
Tottenham and Ange are in a similar situation, but the weight and expectation levels at the club are far lower which is why they’ve avoided more of the media criticism than they arguably deserve.
Home advantage gives United the edge, but I can still see this being a draw.
