Liverpool are one of four English clubs who suffered a first-leg defeat in their Champions League last-16 tie but the Reds are in a much better situation than Manchester City , Tottenham or Chelsea . That result wasn’t ideal but not unexpected, with the Reds having lost on two of their previous three visits to Gala while drawing the other. The good news for Liverpool is their last home match with the Turkish giants resulted in a 3-2 victory in 2006, and a similar outcome would put Arne Slot’s side in with a shot of winning the tie.

Gala followed up their victory over Liverpool with a 3-0 triumph over 10-man Basaksehir on Saturday as they extended their winning run to five games, and to 11 in 14 overall. However, the three games Gala didn’t win in that time will give Liverpool cause for optimism.
Okan Buruk’s side lost 2-0 at Manchester City after conceding twice in the opening half-hour, while they were also beaten 2-0 by Super Lig strugglers Konyaspor . The game immediately after that domestic loss almost saw Gala fall victim to one of the great European comebacks. Juventus , despite losing 5-2 in Istanbul and having Lloyd Kelly sent off in the 49th minute of the second leg, took Gala to extra time before the Turkish side finally progressed through 7-5 on aggregate.
Galatasaray also lost 5-1 at Eintracht Frankfurt and 1-0 at Monaco earlier in their Champions League campaign, so Liverpool can take heart from that too. The Reds will need to nullify the dangerous Victor Osimhen though. The Nigeria striker has scored in four of his last five matches and it would have been five in five but for a controversial offside decision against Liverpool . He is 15/8 to score at Anfield while first-leg scorer Mario Lemina is 8/1 to breach the Reds defence again.
