Liverpool v Real Madrid Preview

Liverpool’s Form

Liverpool look back to their best this season under new manager Arne Slot and thus look well placed to challenge for major honours again in the 24/25 season compared to last season which ended on a whimper with Quarter eliminations in the FA Cup and Europa League and a 3rd league finish despite their early season EFL Cup victory. This year they’ve 31 points from their opening 12 league games which has put them 8 clear of Man City as we prepare to enter the important “Christmas Period”.

They opened their Champions League journey with a 1-3 away victory over Milan coming from behind in the process. Their next games proved more comfortable though running out 2-0 winners over Bologna and 0-1 over RB Leipzig. However, they turned on the style in the last round with a 4-0 demolition of Leverkusen.

Liverpool will stay top of the Champions League phase with another win.

Real Madrid’s Form

Real had a sensational 23/24 season which culminated in a La Liga and Champions League double last season and their subsequent signing of Mbappe during the summer. However, Barcelona’s fast start to the season means they trail their rivals by 4 points in La Liga though they do have one game in hand over Barcelona above them and Atlético in 3rd.

Real opened the Champions League with a 3-1 victory over Stuttgart following goals from Mbappé, Rudiger and Endrick. However, they then fell to a shock 1-0 defeat to Lille. In the third matchday, it was the typical Madrid display despite being 0-2 down at half-time they turned on the style in the second half to have a convincing 5-2 victory. However, in their last game, they fell to another loss this time around 1-3 to Milan.

Madrid need another win or they will be in danger of not being seeded in the next round, but this will be their hardest game yet.

Key Players To Watch

Mohamed Salah - Liverpool

The man affectionately known as “The Egyptian King” by Liverpool fans might be approaching the “Twilight” of his career at (32) but he remains a constant menace for opposition defenders.

This season he has already 12 goals and 10 assists in 18 games across all competitions. He can be gotten at 9/2 to score first or at  5/4 to score at any time in this game.

Kylian Mbappé - Real Madrid

Following his long-awaited during the summer, there were high expectations levels for the “World Class” French attacker to perform. However, despite the hype and promise he has yet to fully get going for the club with a modest 9 goals and 2 assists in 17 games which is modest by his standards.

He is priced at 11/2 to be the first scorer and 7/4 to score anytime in this game.

Liverpool v Real Madrid Prediction & Best Bet

Prediction: Liverpool 2- 1 Real Madrid

Liverpool have started 24/25 in ultra-consistent fashion and look well posed to challenge for major honours despite the absence of Klopp and are worthy favourites here given Madrid’s injury list.

Real have been uncharacteristically inconsistent in this competition so far so it’s very difficult to know what to expect. But even with a high injury list, they’re still expected to field a strong side on Wednesday.

I fancy Liverpool to narrowly get over the line.
