Les Phoceens kicked off their campaign with a frustrating 1-0 defeat at Rennes but the goals are expected to flow in their opening encounter at Stade Velodrome. Last season’s runners-up have added former Feyenoord marksman Igor Paixao to a front line which already featured Mason Greenwood, joint-top scorer in this division for 2024/25, and the fit-again Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Paris FC are back in France’s top flight for the first time in 46 years and may take a while to adjust.

NICE TO BEAT AUXERRE @ 4/6
The Eagles may have been hung over from a Champions League qualifying loss to Benfica when beginning their domestic campaign with a 1-0 home defeat by Toulouse but they are usually strong at Allianz Riviera.
Franck Haise’s side secured 11 wins at this venue en route to finishing fourth in the table last term, with 38 goals scored in those games and just 15 conceded – the best home defensive record in the division.

LYON TO BEAT METZ @ 2/5
Les Gones faced the threat of being relegated due to their financial plight over the summer but a successful appeal earned them a reprieve and they already seem determined to make the most of that let-off.
Georges Mikautadze grabbed the only goal of the game in an opening win at Lens and Lyon were another team to shine on home turf last term, posting 11 victories at Parc OL. Metz began with a 1-0 loss to Strasbourg and are tipped by many to go down.

LORIENT AND RENNES TO DRAW @ 11/5
Lorient returned to the top tier with a 1-0 loss at Auxerre but will be relying on their home form at Stade du Moustoir to try and stave off getting dragged into another relegation battle. Rennes will take great heart from their opening triumph over Marseille but it’s worth remembering they suffered on the road last term, tasting defeat 12 times.
The visitors will also be wary of a poor head-to-head record, losing four straight encounters between 2022 and 2024, so sharing the spoils may be sufficient for both camps here.
