Irish golfer Leona Maguire is now being backed to break her duck on the LPGA Tour after playing a starring role in Europe’s Solheim Cup victory over the USA.
The Cavan debutant finished the event in Ohio as top overall points scorer as she won her singles match on Monday to finish on a rookie record of 4½ points, helping the Europeans win the cup on US soil for only the second time.
Now Maguire’s chances of becoming the first Irish woman to win an LPGA Tour event are being strongly supported.
A first major championship victory for Maguire next season has also been gambled down to 10/1 from 16/1 as she seeks to build on a career-best tied-6th at the Evian Championship in July.
