Galway United v Derry City – Friday 7.45 pm, LOI TV

Odds

Galway United @ 21/10

Derry City @ 5/4

Draw @ 21/10

Preview

Galway were unable to dethrone reigning Champions Shamrock Rovers last weekend (despite their European exploits midweek) and so had to settle for a 1-1 draw in Tallaght. Although their form has been fairly consistent with 8 points from their last 5 games a pickup in those around them means they’ve fallen to 6 th albeit a sole point behind 3rd place Waterford.

Derry City look in better shape than they’ve been in quite some time as they look to realise their Premier Division title aspirations along with the fact they’re still in the FAI Cup. 8 points from their last 5 league games has them ahead of Shelbourne by a goal difference of +7 albeit they have an extra game played over their rivals. Derry City have also bought big in recent weeks including the high-profile acquisition of former Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom.

Prediction: Galway United 1-1 Derry City

Games between both sides have generally been tight affairs throughout this season with both sides having one victory a piece and one draw taking place. Galway are a good value to play to get some sort of result here.

Best Bet: Draw @ 23/10

Dundalk v Shelbourne– Friday 7.45 pm, LOI TV

Odds

Dundalk @ 5/2

Shelbourne @ 23/20

Draw @ 2/1

Preview

Dundalk led by Jon Daly are in serious jeopardy of seeing their Premier Division status removed with 9 games remaining to “save their season” and at a minimum avoid automatic relegation. Despite them having a game in hand over their Louth Rivals Drogheda, it’s very difficult to see where they pick up points in their remaining 9 games and even if they go level Drogheda are now ahead with +4 on them in the goal difference tallies.

At the start of the season, nobody expected Shelbourne led by Damien Duff to be battling it out for the title and yet with 9 games remaining that’s exactly where they lie in the league. However, following only 6 points accumulated in their last 5 games there is a sense that Shelbourne have begun to sleepwalk at just the wrong time

Prediction: Dundalk 0-1 Shelbourne

A huge game in the context of both side's seasons, for contrasting reasons. While Dundalk are always dangerous at home I think Shelbourne might just do enough in this game.

Best Bet: Shelbourne Win + Under 2.5 Goals @ 14/5

Sligo Rovers v Waterford – Friday 7.45 pm, LOI TV

Odds

Sligo Rovers @ 6/4

Waterford @ 13/8

Draw @ 11/5

Preview

Only a few Sligo Rovers were the “in-form” side in the league and yet now the wheels have seemingly fallen off a little after being dumped out of the FAI Cup 0-2 against First Division side UCD two weeks ago and being demolished by Drogheda 7-0 in the league last week. It shows that the prevailing narrative can change rapidly in football. However, a win here could bring them back to 3 rd .

Waterford’s league and cup form has really fallen off with 4 defeats in their last 5 games in all competitions. A lot of that can be put down to goalkeeper issues in the absence of Sam Sargeant and some acrimonious refereeing performances. Nevertheless, they remain in the fight for Europe and a win here would put them 3 clear of Sligo Rovers and still in 3rd place.

Prediction: Sligo Rovers 0-2 Waterford

Both sides are in dismal form and yet, victory for either side would be huge in their European aspirations for next season. It’s a hard game to call though but Waterford have won 2 of their 3 meetings this season so I give them the edge.

Best Bet: Waterford @ 13/8

Bohemians v Shamrock Rovers– Sunday 11.30 am, LOI TV

Odds

Bohemians @ 2/1

Shamrock Rovers @ EVS

Draw @ 13/5

Preview

Bohemians have a few key weeks in their season remaining and the discourse could be anything from mid-table mediocrity and another FAI Cup Final or it could go from a Quarter-Final exit and a shock relegation from the Premier Division it all depends on how they perform in their games in hand. But with 3 points from their last 5 league games, the signs aren’t exactly bright.

Shamrock Rovers are having to balance their European games along with their league title defence and with 10 games remaining to turn that tide the window for them to do so is slowly shutting. However, a victory in this game could theoretically bring them to 3 rd in the table and could close the gap to Derry City and Shelbourne who Rovers have games in hand over also. It isn’t quite over for them!

Prediction: Bohemians 1-1 Shamrock Rovers

Bohemians are unbeaten in their last two games against Shamrock Rovers’ and with home advantage and fresher legs, I can see them getting a point in this game.

Best Bet: Draw @ 13/5

St Patrick’s Athletic v Drogheda United – Sunday 6.00 pm, LOI TV

Odds

St Patrick’s Athletic @ 4/5

Drogheda United @ 14/5

Draw @ 13/5

Preview

St Patrick’s Athletic are now free from the “shackles” of Europe having been knocked out in the final Conference League qualifying round on Wednesday Night. However, with nothing to play for in the cup or league, the remaining weeks of the season might be about Stephen Kenny starting his preparation for next season and experimenting with personnel and tactical structures.

Drogheda may be amidst a relegation race, but 16 goals from their last 2 games in all competitions means that confidence will be bouncing in the camp which could be crucial in the coming weeks as they look to continue their run in the FAI Cup as well as staying in the Premier Division.

Prediction: St Patrick’s Athletic 1-0 Drogheda

Could see this game going anyway, but I believe Pat’s might just have too much quality for Drogheda on Sunday evening.

Best Bet: St Patrick’s Athletic @ 4/5
