Waterford @ 7/5

Draw @ 11/5

Preview

Drogheda are languishing at the bottom of the table after earning only 17 points from their opening 24 matches and only 2 points from their last 5 league games. Things are not looking good for the club, and they could now be set for relegation to the Premier Division for the first time since they won the First Division in 2019. However, their 2-1 victory over Dundalk in the FAI Cup last weekend could be a potential momentum changer as they try to reduce the 5-point gap between them in the bottom of the league.

Waterford rotated for their FAI Cup clash against Cockhill Celtic but still pulled out a 2-1 victory, while their latest league loss was in their last league game 1-0 against fellow promoted side Galway United. However, despite those tough games in recent weeks Waterford have still had an excellent season and their 9 points from their last 5 games have them 3rd in the league and well in contention for European Football.

Prediction: Drogheda 1-2 Waterford

At the start of the season, this would have been a game that both sides were targeting for points but since then they’ve been on entirely different trajectories with Drogheda bottom of the table and Waterford fighting for Europe.

Drogheda are coming off a confidence-boosting win against Dundalk and Waterford haven’t been the most convincing in their last two games. However, Waterford should still be far too good for Drogheda although I could see both teams scoring.

Best Bet: Waterford Win + Over 2.5 Goals @ 3/1

Preview

Bohemians have fallen from what was considered a disappointing 6th place last season, to currently occupying 8th place with 14 games remaining albeit with games in hand over every side in the league. Last season they gained some sort of solace in their FAI Cup run which culminated in a runner-up finish against St Patrick’s Athletic. Ahead of this game, they ended their 5-game winless run in the league to claim a huge Dublin Derby victory against Shamrock Rovers 1-0 in the FAI Cup which may stem the tide as they look to climb the table in the league.

Dundalk may have lost their Louth Derby in the cup against Drogheda last week, but their victory over them in the league the week before was a far more important win in the context of their season. Their 6-point total from their last 5 league games has them 5 clear of Drogheda and another win here would put them back in contention for a rise up the table and the chance to get out of the relegation race.

Prediction: Bohemians 1-1 Dundalk

Bohemians despite having a poor season so far, their latest FAI Cup win could boost their confidence considerably. They also have several games in hand in the league, though games in hand are not points on the table. Dundalk have improved somewhat recently, and I think they’ll fancy themselves to get at least a point in this game.

Best Bet: Draw @ 21/10

Preview

Sligo Rovers are in flying form winning 4 of their last 4 in competitive fixtures following their 3-0 win over Cobh Wanderers last Sunday. Along with that, they put in an impressive showing drawing 3-3 with Everton in a friendly at The Showgrounds. For a manager who was under pressure last season and this season, John Russell deserves a lot of credit for the job he is doing at the club. Another win could catapult them into the European Places which would be a huge level up from the relegation battle which was expected at the start of the season.

Galway United had a rampant 6-0 victory against bottom-of-the-table First Division side Longford Town in the FAI Cup last weekend. That win was a continuation of what has been a very strong season for the club and their 7-point total from their last 5 league games has them level on points with Shamrock Rovers in 4th only behind them on +4 of a goal difference. Had you told a Galway supporter that at the start of the season they’d have bitten your hand off.

Prediction: Sligo Rovers 1-0 Galway United

Sligo are in strong form, but this is a notoriously tight game to predict with two 0-0 draws a piece between both sides this season. Galway are favourites and although I think it will be tight I’m favouring the home side for this game.

However, it would be quite the start to the weekend for the people of Galway if in advance of their All-Ireland Football Final on Sunday in another code if they could beat Sligo Rovers on Saturday.

Best Bet: Sligo Rovers @ 9/4
