Shelbourne v Sligo Rovers– Friday 7.45 pm,  Virgin Media 2

Odds

Shelbourne @ 6/10

Sligo Rovers @ 4/1

Draw @ 13/5

Preview

Shelbourne have had a brilliant 2024 season so far under Damien Duff, coming into it with little expectations or a league challenge but they now lead the league with six games remaining. Had you told them that at the start of the season, they’d have bitten your hands off for it and yet with just five points from their last five league games they’re in danger of relinquishing control in the title race if they don’t pick up a win here.

Sligo Rovers are another side who have performed beyond expectations this season and with nine points in their last five league games they currently sit in fifth and only three points behind Shamrock Rovers in third. If they can finish this season strongly European Football could be on the cards for the Bit O’Red in 2025.

Prediction: Shelbourne 1-0 Sligo Rovers

This’ll be a tight game, in all three of their fixtures this season only one goal has separated the sides with Sligo Rovers currently leading the series of games 1-2. However, it’s do-or-die for Shelbourne, and I think they need this win more, which could prove the difference in the end.

Best Bet: Under 1.5 Goals @ 19/10

Dundalk v Bohemians– Friday 7.45 pm,  LOI TV

Odds

Dundalk @ 9/4

Bohemians @ 21/20

Draw @ 11/5

Preview

Dundalk’s Premier Division status may be in serious jeopardy in the final few weeks of the season with five points now separating themselves and Drogheda in second from bottom. However, the main thing for the club is that they were able to find a financial solution and keep the club afloat to close the season. Though the long-term health of the club is still in for some serious issues Dundalk supporters will be in a buoyant mood for now which could make for an intimating home atmosphere.

Last week I said if Bohemians could avoid defeat against Drogheda they were out of the relegation conversation. However, what followed was a 0-1 loss to Drogheda and a dramatic defeat late to Shamrock Rovers on Monday Night. Thus, their lead over Drogheda is now cut to four points and a playoff game isn’t outside the realms of possibility for their future.

Prediction: Dundalk 1-1 Bohemians

This is a tough fixture to call with both sides in poor form. In the head-to-head, they’re one win a piece with one draw coming in their most recent fixture last July 1-1 in Dalymount. I suspect another 1-1 is on the cards here.

Best Bet: Draw @ 11/5

Waterford v Galway United– Friday 7.45 pm,  LOI TV

Odds

Waterford @ 23/10

Galway United @ 11/10

Draw @ 21/10

Preview

Though Waterford lost convincingly 3-0 to St Patrick’s Athletic last Friday Night and have only cumulated six points in their last five league games, they remain in the European race in what has been largely a very positive season for the club. This a huge game for those prospects though as they will stay ahead of St Patrick’s Athletic and go level with Galway with a win in this game.

Galway have also had a successful return to the Premier Division this season though it was arguably a little more expected considering they finished a staggering twenty-five points above them in the 2023 First Division season. Their 0-0 draw against Drogheda on Monday made it a solid eight points gained from their last five games and a win here would put them in pole position for a European Spot.

Prediction: Waterford 1-1 Galway United

The “gap” between both sides has been cut considerably in the space of 12 months from 25 points to currently just three points. Though Waterford are yet to win this season against them with a draw and two defeats there’s never been more than a goal between them. I have this down for a scored draw.

Best Bet: Draw @ 21/10

Drogheda v Derry City– Friday 7.45 pm,  LOI TV

Odds

Drogheda @ 15/4

Derry City @ 8/13

Draw @ 14/5

Preview

Drogheda are finishing this season in strong form which is giving them a serious chance of not only avoiding automatic relegation, but with the increasing chance they could avoid a playoff altogether with an FAI Cup Semi-Final to come in the next few weeks also. Their eight points from their last five games have them fourth in the form table and another win here could at the very least pull 90% of the curtains down on Dundalk.

It's a very crucial juncture in Derry City’s season these next few games with them having aspirations of landing the League and the FAI Cup double in the closing weeks of their season. However, six points from their last five league games including their recent 1-1 draw against Shamrock Rovers means they’ve failed to capitalise on Shelbourne’s poor run of form and have brought Shamrock Rovers back into the title race.

Prediction: Drogheda 1-1 Derry City

This could be a preview of a potential FAI Cup Final in a few weeks, but first, both sides will need to contend with their respective relegation and title races.

Derry were 5-1 winners in their head-to-head fixture, but the others were more competitive with a 2-2 draw in Drogheda and a 2-1 win for Derry at the Brandywell. I could see Drogheda avoiding defeat here but a win is probably unlike them.

Best Bet:  Draw @ 14/5

Shamrock Rovers v St Patrick’s Athletic – Saturday 7.45 pm,  LOI TV

Odds

Shamrock Rovers @ 8/13

St Patrick’s Athletic @ 15/4

Draw @ 11/4

Preview

Shamrock Rovers’ have battled their way back into a  Premier Division title race with ten points from their last five league games meaning they’ve only cumulated fewer points in that time frame ironically to their opponents St Patrick’s Athletic with thirteen. A victory in this game could see them leapfrog Derry and go only one behind Shelbourne.

St Patrick’s Athletic are the form team in the country now under Stephen Kenny and the signs for next season look very bright. Despite the odds too, they’ve had the better of their Dublin rivals this season with two 2-1 victories at Richmond Park the other game in Tallaght was a 2-2 draw so a goal feast could be expected on Friday Night.

Prediction: Shamrock Rovers 2-2 St Patrick’s Athletic

Two of the form teams in the country and though Rovers look to be coming to the boil at the right time St Patrick’s Athletic can’t be ruled out now especially given their progression under Stephen Kenny.

I can see this being a scored draw in Tallaght for the second time this season

Best Bet: Draw @ 11/4
